Xiaomi Redmi Note Motherboard Replacement

The motherboard houses essential phone components and must be removed for screen replacement or other repairs, as shown in this guide.

Step 1 | Battery

Power down the Xiaomi Redmi Note.

  • Insert a plastic opening tool between the charging port and the rear case.
  • Pry the end of the rear case up from the charging port.

Use a plastic opening tool to run along the side seam and release the rear casing.

  • Identify the battery retention feature at the lower part of the battery.
  • Insert your finger into the battery release notch and pull upwards to remove the battery.

Step 4 | Midframe

Remove twelve 3.5mm Phillips #00 screws from the midframe.

Insert plastic opening tool into seam between midframe and bottom frame.

  • Run tool along seam to loosen midframe.
  • Pry up midframe using plastic opening tool.
  • Lift entire component out once clips disconnect, indicated by snapping sounds.

Step 6 | Front-Facing Camera

Use tweezers to lift the retaining flap of the ZIF connector to the upright position.

  • Use tweezers to pull the ribbon cable out of the ZIF connector.
  • Remove the front-facing camera from the motherboard.

Step 7 | Rear Camera

Locate and carefully pull out the press-fit connector adjacent to the rear-facing camera on the motherboard.

Step 8 | Motherboard

Identify the three ZIF connectors on the motherboard.

Use a pair of tweezers to lift the retaining flap on each ZIF connector into an upright position.

  • Pull the ribbon cable out of the first connector by gently tugging it to the left.
  • Repeat for the other two ZIF connectors.

Identify the antenna cable situated at the bottom right of the motherboard.

Use a pair of tweezers carefully to lift the cable clear from the motherboard.

Remove the two 2.9mm Philips #00 screws.

Flip the motherboard over to expose the back.

  • Use a plastic opening tool to carefully pry off the snap fit connector, located at the bottom right of the motherboard.

Do not attempt to remove the motherboard yet, as it may damage its connection to the vibrating motor.

  • Lift up the motherboard and turn it over.
  • Place it by the side of the phone for future access.

Remove the vibrating motor from the phone frame using a pair of tweezers.

The vibrating motor is glued in place, so apply sufficient force as needed.
