This guide assumes you're replacing only the screen; if your replacement screen comes pre-installed in a new frame, follow a different procedure.
Prepare an iOpener and apply it to the back cover for at least two minutes to loosen the adhesive underneath.
Excessive heat can cause permanent damage.
Secure a suction handle to the bottom edge of the rear glass, as close to the edge as possible.
If the rear glass is cracked, the suction handle may not stick; try lifting it with strong tape or superglue the suction handle in place and allow it to cure before proceeding.
Slide the opening pick to the bottom right corner to slice the adhesive.
Leave the opening pick in place to prevent the adhesive from resealing.
Leave both picks in place to prevent re-adhesion of the adhesive.
The adhesive may become harder to cut if it cools down.
Insert the opening pick at the top left corner.
Insert the opening pick under the top right corner.
Remove the rear glass.
Ensure all relevant areas are free from debris and oils before applying new adhesive.
Remove the motherboard cover using a Phillips screwdriver.
Insert the opening pick under the right edge of the motherboard cover.
Remove the motherboard cover using either your fingers or a pair of tweezers.
Disconnect the battery flex cable using a spudger, prying the connector straight up from its socket.
Remove the screws using a Phillips screwdriver.
Insert an opening pick into the gap between the right edge of the loudspeaker assembly and the frame.
Remove the loudspeaker assembly using your fingers or a pair of tweezers.
Use a spudger to carefully pry the display cable connector straight up from its socket.
Be cautious when using heat as excessive temperature can damage the device.
Apply a suction handle to the bottom edge of the screen.
If your screen is badly cracked, cover it with clear packing tape for better adhesion.
Insert iFixit Opening Pick above the iFlex.
Insert a second opening pick at the bottom edge, sliding it towards the bottom left corner of the screen.
Reapply heat as needed using your iOpener or heat gun for 1-2 minutes.
When slicing near the front-facing camera, insert only the tip (about 2-3 mm) of the opening pick.
Avoid damaging or smearing the camera
Insert a fifth opening pick and slide it along the right edge to cut the remaining adhesive.
Do not attempt to fully remove the display yet as the display cable remains attached to the frame.
Compare your new replacement part to the original and transfer any remaining components as needed.
