Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S Screen Replacement

This guide assumes you're replacing only the screen; if your replacement screen comes pre-installed in a new frame, follow a different procedure.

  • Ensure the correct replacement part: check that it's just the screen and not a complete frame assembly.
  • Prepare replacement adhesives for both rear glass and screen before starting.
  • If battery is swollen, take necessary precautions.
  • Discharge battery below 25% to prevent accidental puncture and potential fire/explosion risk.

Step 1 | Heat the rear glass

Step 1 image

Prepare an iOpener and apply it to the back cover for at least two minutes to loosen the adhesive underneath.

  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but be careful not to overheat the phone, as this can cause damage to the display and internal battery.

Excessive heat can cause permanent damage.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Step 2 image

Secure a suction handle to the bottom edge of the rear glass, as close to the edge as possible.

If the rear glass is cracked, the suction handle may not stick; try lifting it with strong tape or superglue the suction handle in place and allow it to cure before proceeding.

  • Lift the rear glass with the suction handle to create a small gap between the back cover and the frame.
  • Apply more heat if needed, following iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.
  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 3 | Slice the adhesive

Step 3 image

Slide the opening pick to the bottom right corner to slice the adhesive.

Leave the opening pick in place to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

  • Position another opening pick at the phone's bottom edge.
  • Guide this pick to the bottom left corner, slicing through the adhesive.
  • Leave both picks in place to prevent re-adhesion of the adhesive.

The adhesive may become harder to cut if it cools down.

  • Reheat the iOpener for one to two minutes to soften the adhesive.
  • Insert a third opening pick at the bottom left corner of your phone.
  • Slide the opening pick along the left edge to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in the top left corner to prevent resealing.

  • Install the rear glass and apply steady pressure to your phone for several minutes.
  • Use a stack of heavy books to help secure the rear glass during this time.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to loosen the screen's adhesive for at least two minutes.
  • Reapply the iOpener multiple times if necessary due to strong adhesive.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but monitor temperature to avoid overheating.
  • The edge should feel slightly too hot to the touch to prevent device damage.
