Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S Loudspeaker Replacement

This repair guide is for replacing the loudspeaker in a Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S. Ensure you have replacement adhesive on hand for reassembly.

Step 1 | Heat the rear glass

Avoid overheating the phone to prevent damage to the display and internal battery.

  • Prepare an iOpener or use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate to loosen adhesive underneath the back cover.
  • Apply heat for at least two minutes to facilitate removal of the back cover.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Secure a suction handle to the bottom edge of the rear glass.

  • If the rear glass is cracked, try lifting it with strong tape or superglue the suction handle in place.
  • Lift the rear glass using the suction handle to create a small gap between the back cover and frame.

Be cautious not to overheat the adhesive.

Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 3 | Slice the adhesive

Insert opening pick at bottom right corner and gently slice adhesive.

Do not remove opening pick; leave in place to prevent adhesive reseal.

Step 4 | Slice the adhesive

Insert a second opening pick at the bottom edge.

  • Slide it to the bottom left corner to cut the adhesive.
  • Leave both picks in place, avoiding resealed adhesive.

The adhesive may have cooled down if it becomes hard to cut.

  • Reheat the adhesive with an iOpener for one to two minutes.
  • Insert a third opening pick at the bottom left corner of your phone.
  • Slide this pick along the left edge to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave it in place near the top left corner to prevent resealing.

Insert a fourth opening pick under the top left corner.

  • Slide it along the top edge to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave it in place, especially at the top right corner.

Insert a fifth opening pick under the top right corner.

  • Slide the pick along the right edge of the rear glass, slicing the remaining adhesive.

Step 8 | Remove the rear glass

Remove the rear glass.

  • Clean areas with isopropyl alcohol (>90%) and reapply new adhesive as needed.
  • Secure the new rear glass using pre-cut adhesive or double-sided adhesive tape.
  • Apply strong, steady pressure to your phone for several minutes after installation to ensure a good bond. A stack of heavy books works well.

Step 9 | Unfasten the motherboard cover screws

Remove the motherboard cover using a Phillips screwdriver.

  • There are 11 screws (3.8 mm long) to remove, one of which is hidden under an orange sticker.

Step 10 | Pry up the motherboard cover

Locate the right edge of the motherboard cover.

  • Insert the tip of an opening pick underneath.
  • Pry the cover up by twisting the opening pick sideways.

Step 11 | Remove the motherboard cover

Remove motherboard cover with your fingers or a tweezer.

Step 12 | Disconnect the battery cable

Disconnect the battery flex cable using a spudger, prying the connector straight up from its socket.

Step 13 | Unfasten the loudspeaker assembly screws

Remove the loudspeaker assembly using a Phillips screwdriver.

  • There are seven screws, each measuring 3.8 mm long.
  • One of these screws is located under an orange sticker.

Step 14 | Pry up the loudspeaker assembly

Insert an opening pick into the gap between the right edge of the loudspeaker assembly and the frame.

  • Twist the opening pick sideways to pry up the loudspeaker assembly.

Step 15 | Remove the loudspeaker assembly

Remove the loudspeaker assembly using your fingers or a tweezer.

  • During reassembly, clean any surfaces with isopropyl alcohol (greater than 90% concentration).
  • Apply new adhesive where necessary to the cleaned areas.
