Discharge the battery below 25% before disassembly to minimize thermal risks.
You'll need replacement adhesive for reassembly.
Prepare an iOpener by applying it to the back cover for at least two minutes to loosen the adhesive underneath.
Secure a suction handle to the bottom edge of the rear glass.
Apply more heat if necessary to soften the adhesive. Be cautious not to overheat (follow iOpener instructions).
Slide the opening pick to the bottom right corner to cut the adhesive.
Leave both picks in place to prevent re-adhesion.
Reheat the iOpener for one to two minutes if the adhesive becomes hard to cut.
Leave the opening pick in the top left corner to prevent resealing of the adhesive.
Insert the opening pick under the top left corner of the phone.
Insert a fifth opening pick under the top right corner.
Apply steady pressure to your phone for several minutes after installation to ensure proper bonding. A stack of heavy books can help.
Remove the motherboard cover using a Phillips screwdriver.
Locate the right edge of the motherboard cover.
Remove the motherboard cover using either your fingers or a pair of tweezers.
Use a spudger to pry the battery flex cable connector straight up out of its socket.
Disconnect the power and volume button cable using a spudger, prying the connector straight up from its socket.
Avoid folding the cable sharply, as this can cause damage. Gently bend it to the side to free the battery.
Disconnect the display cable with a spudger, prying the connector straight up from its socket.
Disconnect the motherboard interconnect cable using a spudger. Prise the connector straight up from its socket.
Bend cables carefully, avoiding sharp folds, to prevent damage.
Avoid using sharp tools on the battery — risk of puncture and chemical leakage.
Grab the first pull-tab with a tweezer or your fingers and slowly pull it towards the phone's bottom edge.
Do not pry under the battery or press down on it while pulling.
Repeat the previous pull-tab removal procedure for the second tab.
If adhesive breaks off underneath the battery, apply a few drops of high concentration isopropyl alcohol (over 90%) under the edge of the battery in the affected area.
Use the flat end of a spudger to gently lift the battery; do not try to force it out. If needed, apply more drops of alcohol to further loosen the adhesive.
Never deform or puncture the battery with your pry tool.
Remove the battery.
Do not reinstall a damaged or deformed battery, as doing so is a potential safety hazard.
