Step 1 | Eject the SIM card tray

Insert a SIM eject tool, SIM eject bit, or straightened paper clip into the hole on the SIM tray.

Press directly into the hole to eject the SIM card tray.
Remove the ejected SIM card tray.

Step 2 | Heat the back cover

Remove the back cover by prying loose the plastic clips.

Excessive force can damage the device — use caution.

Prepare an iOpener and apply it to the back cover for at least two minutes to loosen the adhesive underneath.

Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate. However, be careful not to overheat the phone — risk of display and internal battery damage.

Step 3 | Insert an opening pick

Secure a suction handle to the screen's bottom edge, as close to the edge as possible.

If the screen is cracked, the suction handle may not stick; try lifting it with strong tape or superglue the suction handle in place and allow it to cure.

Lift the phone assembly with the suction handle to create a small gap between the assembly and back cover.
In case of trouble creating a gap, apply more heat (following iOpener instructions to avoid overheating).

Insert an opening pick in a steep angle into the created gap; this may require some force.

Slide the opening pick to the bottom right corner to slice the adhesive and release plastic clips holding back cover in place.

Step 4 | Release the plastic clips and slice the adhesive

Insert a second opening pick at the bottom edge, angled steeply.

Slide the pick towards the bottom left corner to release plastic clips and cut adhesive.
Leave picks in place to prevent resealing of adhesive.

Step 5 | Release the plastic clips and slice the adhesive

If adhesive becomes hard to cut, it has likely cooled down.

Reheat with your iOpener.
Insert a third opening pick at the bottom left corner of your phone in a steep angle.
Slide the opening pick along the left edge to release clips and slice adhesive.
Leave the pick in the top left corner to prevent resealing.

Step 6

Insert a fourth opening pick at the bottom right corner of your phone in a steep angle.

Slide the opening pick along the right edge of your phone to release plastic clips and slice adhesive.
Leave the opening pick in the top right corner to prevent resealing of adhesive.

Do not attempt to separate the phone assembly from the back cover yet, as the fingerprint cable is still connected to the motherboard.

Step 7 | Open the phone assembly

Flip the Redmi Note 9 over.

Avoid straining the fingerprint flex cable.

Fold the back cover to the right side of the phone assembly, like opening a book from the back.
Slide the back cover underneath the phone assembly, ensuring about one third of the back cover overlaps and does not strain the fingerprint cable.

Step 8 | Unfasten the motherboard cover screws

Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the eleven 3.9mm screws.

Step 9 | Pry up the motherboard cover

Insert the tip of a credit card or similar tool under the bottom left corner of the motherboard cover.

Pry gently to loosen and lift the motherboard cover.

Step 10 | Remove the motherboard cover

Remove motherboard cover.

Step 11 | Disconnect the fingerprint cable

Disconnect the fingerprint cable using a spudger, prying the connector straight up.

Separate the phone assembly from the back cover.

Step 12 | Disconnect the battery cable

Disconnect the battery cable with a spudger, prying the connector directly upwards.

Step 13 | Unfasten the loudspeaker screws

Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the seven 3.9 mm-long screws securing the loudspeaker assembly.

Step 14 | Remove the loudspeaker assembly

Remove the loudspeaker assembly.

When reassembling, ensure all surfaces are clean and free of debris before applying new adhesive to necessary areas.

Apply new adhesive where needed after cleaning relevant areas with isopropyl alcohol (min. 90%).
