Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Back Cover Replacement

This repair requires transferring the old NFC antenna if your replacement part doesn't include one — NFC functionality will be lost otherwise.

  • Acquire a new set of adhesives for both the back cover and the fingerprint reader.
  • Use this guide to transfer the old NFC antenna if necessary.

Step 1 | Eject the SIM card tray

Locate the SIM tray hole on the left edge of the phone.

  • Insert a SIM card eject tool, SIM eject bit, or a straightened paper clip into the hole.
  • Press directly into the hole to eject the SIM card tray.
  • Remove the ejected SIM card tray.

Step 2 | Heat the back cover

Step 2 image

Remove the back cover by prying loose the plastic clips.

Be cautious when applying force as it may require some effort to release them.

  • Prepare an iOpener and apply heat for at least two minutes to loosen the adhesive underneath the back cover.
  • A hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate can also be used; however, take care not to overheat the phone as it may cause damage to the display and internal battery.

Step 3 | Insert an opening pick

Secure a suction handle to the screen's bottom edge, as close to the edge as possible.

If the screen is cracked, the suction handle may not stick. Try lifting it with strong tape or superglue it in place and allow it to cure before proceeding.

  • Lift the screen and phone assembly with the suction handle to create a small gap between the assembly and the back cover.
  • If needed, apply more heat to soften the adhesive further. Follow the iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.

Insert an opening pick at a steep angle into the created gap, requiring some force if necessary.

  • Slide the opening pick towards the bottom right corner to slice the adhesive and release the plastic clips holding the back cover in place.

Step 4 | Release the plastic clips and slice the adhesive

Insert a second opening pick at the bottom edge, angled steeply.

  • Slide it towards the left corner to release clips and cut adhesive.
  • Leave in place to prevent re-adhesion.

Step 5 | Release the plastic clips and slice the adhesive

If the adhesive becomes hard to cut, it has likely cooled down.

  • Reheat the adhesive using your iOpener.
  • Opening pick along left edge of phone to release plastic clips and slice adhesive.
  • Leave opening pick in top left corner to prevent resealing.

Slide a pick tool along the right edge of your phone to release plastic clips and cut adhesive.

  • Leave the pick in the top right corner to prevent resealing.
  • Do not separate phone assembly from back cover completely yet — fingerprint reader still attached.

Step 7 | Heat the fingerprint reader

Step 7 image

Apply a iOpener to the back cover near the fingerprint reader for 2 minutes.

The iOpener may cause thermal damage to internal components if applied too aggressively or for an extended period.

Step 8 | Remove the back cover

Remove the back cover by lifting it upwards while pressing down on the fingerprint reader with your finger.

  • If the fingerprint reader doesn't separate easily, reapply a heated iOpener for 1-2 minutes to loosen its adhesive.
  • Take off the old back cover completely.
  • Attach a new back cover using pre-cut adhesive or double-sided tape, applying it to the back cover and not the phone's frame.

Apply strong, steady pressure to your phone for several minutes after installing the new back cover to ensure proper adhesion. A stack of heavy books can help apply even pressure.
