Redmi Note 8 Pro battery replacement

Discharge your battery below 25% before disassembling for safety.

  • Carefully inspect your battery for signs of swelling or wear.
  • Replace a swollen or dead battery to avoid thermal events and permanent damage.
  • If replacing, use new adhesive for reassembly to ensure component stability.

Be aware that swollen batteries can stretch cables and cause connector pin fractures.

Step 1 | Heat the rear glass

Step 1 image

Prepare an iOpener and apply it to the rear glass for at least two minutes to loosen the adhesive underneath.

Use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate with caution, as overheating can cause damage to the display and internal battery.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Secure a suction handle to the rear glass's bottom edge, as close as possible.

If the rear glass is cracked, it may not stick – use strong tape or apply superglue, then let cure.

  • Lift the rear glass with the suction handle to create a gap between the back cover and frame.
  • If still struggling, reapply heat (following iOpener guidelines) to soften adhesive further.

Insert an opening pick into the created gap and slide it to the bottom right corner to cut the adhesive.

Leave the opening pick in place to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 3 | Slice the adhesive

Step 3 image

Insert another opening pick at the bottom edge of the phone.

  • Guide this new pick to the bottom left corner and use it to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave both opening picks in place to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 4 | Slice the adhesive

Reapply heat using an iOpener for 1-2 minutes if adhesive becomes hard to cut.

  • Insert a third opening pick at the bottom left corner of your phone.
  • Slide the opening pick along the left edge of your phone to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in the top left corner to prevent resealing.

Insert a fourth opening pick at the top left corner of your phone.

  • Slide it along the top edge to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in the top right corner to prevent resealing.

  • Insert a fifth opening pick under the top right corner.
  • Slide the opening pick down the right edge, cutting through the remaining adhesive.

Step 7 | Remove the rear glass

Remove the rear glass.

  • Clean the relevant areas with isopropyl alcohol (90% or higher)
  • Apply new adhesive where necessary.
  • Rear glass assembly: Secure with pre-cut adhesive or double-sided tape.

Apply strong, steady pressure to the phone for several minutes after installing the rear glass. A stack of heavy books can be used to apply even pressure.

Step 8 | Unfasten the motherboard cover screws

Remove the motherboard cover with an 11-point Phillips screwdriver.

Step 9 | Pry up the motherboard cover

Disconnect the power and volume button cable by prying the connector straight up with a spudger.

  • Fold the power and volume button cable to the side using your spudger.
  • Avoid folding the cable sharply to prevent damage.

Do not fold the cable sharply — risk of cable damage.

Step 13 | Disconnect the display cable

Do not fold cables sharply — risk of damage.

  • Fold the display and interconnect flex cable towards the charging port for access to battery pull tabs and battery.
  • Use small tape to temporarily secure cables on your work surface, if needed.

Step 16 | Remove the stretch-release adhesive

Step 16 image

Puncturing the battery can release hazardous substances and cause a fire.

  • Use blunt nose tweezers or a clean fingernail to peel down both battery adhesive pull-tabs.
  • Avoid using sharp tools to prevent damage to the battery.

Step 17 | Remove the pull-tabs

Step 17 image

Thumbnail 3

Grasp the first pull-tab with a pair of tweezers or your fingers.

  • Pull slowly towards the bottom edge of your phone while maintaining tension on the strip.
  • Do not force it, as this may cause damage to the adhesive or battery.

  • Hold your phone firmly by its sides with the palm facing downwards.

Keep the strip flat and unwrinkled while pulling evenly on the whole width of the strip.

  • Pull at a low angle to avoid snagging the edge of the battery.
  • If the adhesive strip breaks, attempt to retrieve it using your fingers or tweezers before continuing.

Step 18

Repeat the pull-tab removal procedure for the second tab.

  • Keep the strip flat and unwrinkled when pulling the tab at a low angle.
  • If adhesive breaks off underneath the battery, apply isopropyl alcohol to the affected area (concentration >90%).
  • Wait about one minute for the solution to weaken the adhesive.

  • Use a spudger's flat end to gently lift the battery; do not force it out or deform it with your pry tool.
  • If necessary, add more alcohol to further loosen the adhesive, taking care not to puncture the battery.

Step 19 | Remove the battery

Step 19 image

Do not reinstall a damaged or deformed battery — potential safety hazard.

  • Remove the battery.
  • If there's remaining alcohol solution, wipe it off or allow to air dry before installing new battery.
  • Temporarily reconnect battery to motherboard during reassembly for correct alignment.
  • Disconnect battery after seating.
