Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T Fingerprint Sensor Replacement

This repair guide is for replacing a faulty fingerprint sensor in the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T smartphone.

  • You will require replacement adhesive to secure components during reassembly.

Step 1 | Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T Rear Glass Removal

Switch off your phone.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the back of the phone for at least two minutes to loosen the adhesive beneath the back cover.

Secure a suction handle to the phone's rear glass, as close to the edge as possible.

If the rear glass is cracked, try lifting it with strong tape or superglue the suction handle in place to proceed.

  • Lift the rear glass with the suction handle to create a small gap between the glass and frame.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap.

If necessary, apply more heat to soften the adhesive further. Follow iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.

  • Slide the opening pick to the bottom right corner.

Insert a second opening pick and slide it to the bottom left corner to cut the adhesive.

  • Leave the opening picks in place to prevent the adhesive from resealing.
  • Do not remove the suction handle yet — use it as a rear glass stand later.

Insert third opening pick into bottom left corner.

  • Slide tip of pick along side of phone, cutting adhesive.
  • Leave opening pick in top left corner to prevent resealing.

Check if the adhesive has cooled down, causing it to be hard to cut.

  • Use your iOpener to reheat the adhesive.

  • Insert a fourth opening pick under the top left corner of the rear glass.
  • Slide the opening pick along the top edge of the phone to cut the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in the top right corner to prevent resealing.

Avoid inserting the opening pick more than 5 mm deep to prevent damage to the fingerprint connector.

  • Slide the opening pick along the right side to separate the remaining adhesive.
  • Do not remove the rear glass completely yet, as the fingerprint cable is still connected to the motherboard.

Locate the suction handle and attach it to the rear glass.

  • Fold the rear glass carefully towards the right side of the phone.
  • Use the suction handle as a stand for supporting the rear glass.

Disconnect the fingerprint flex cable using a spudger.

Power on the phone, but make sure to turn it off again before continuing.

Remove the rear glass.

Step 9 | Fingerprint Sensor

Apply a iOpener to the rear of the phone, where the fingerprint reader is situated.

  • Position the iOpener for at least two minutes to loosen the adhesive underneath.

  • Insert an opening pick under the edge of the fingerprint reader.
  • Work the opening pick around the edge of the fingerprint reader to release adhesive.
  • Use the opening pick to carefully separate the adhesive from under the fingerprint flex cable.

Remove the fingerprint reader.
