Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Rear Glass Replacement

Make sure to obtain replacement adhesives for the rear glass and fingerprint reader before starting.

  • Have a new rear glass and matching adhesive ready.
  • Also, prepare a replacement adhesive for the fingerprint reader.

Step 1 | Heat the rear glass

To avoid damage to the display and internal battery, carefully apply heat only as needed.

  • Use an iOpener or alternative heating tool (hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate) to loosen adhesive underneath rear glass.
  • Apply heat for at least two minutes, but do not overheat the phone.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Secure a suction handle closely to the rear glass's bottom edge.

If the rear glass is cracked, it may not stick; try using strong tape or superglue to hold it in place while it cures.

  • Lift the rear glass with the suction handle, creating a small gap between the back cover and frame.
  • Apply more heat if needed to soften the adhesive further (but avoid overheating).

Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Slide the opening pick to the bottom right corner to slice the adhesive, then leave it in place.

Step 3 | Slice the adhesive

Insert a second opening pick at the phone's bottom edge.

  • Move the pick towards the bottom left corner to cut through the adhesive.
  • Leave both picks in place to stop the adhesive from resealing.

If the adhesive becomes difficult to cut, it may have cooled down.

  • Reheat the adhesive using your iOpener for one to two minutes.
  • Insert a third opening pick at the bottom left corner of your phone.
  • Slide the opening pick along the left edge to cut the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in the top left corner to prevent resealing.
