Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Fingerprint Reader Replacement

Ensure you have spare adhesives for the rear glass and fingerprint reader before proceeding.

  • Start by replacing the broken fingerprint reader
  • Have a set of replacement adhesives for the rear glass and fingerprint reader

Step 1 | Heat the rear glass

Step 1 image

Prepare an iOpener and apply it to the rear glass for at least two minutes.

Be cautious of overheating as the display and internal battery can be damaged by excessive heat.

  • If using a heat source, such as a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, monitor temperature levels to avoid damage.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Secure a suction handle to the rear glass's bottom edge, as close as possible.

  • If the rear glass is cracked, try lifting with strong tape or superglue the suction handle in place and let it cure before proceeding.
  • Lift the rear glass with the suction handle to create a small gap between the back cover and frame.

In case of trouble creating a gap, apply more heat to soften adhesive further (follow iOpener instructions to avoid overheating).

  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.
  • Slide the opening pick to the bottom right corner to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in place to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 3 | Slice the adhesive

Risk of damage if fingerprint reader is not properly removed.

  • Remove the fingerprint reader.
  • Clean areas with isopropyl alcohol (>90% concentration), then apply new adhesive as needed.
  • Secure the rear glass using pre-cut adhesive or double-sided tape.
  • Apply steady pressure to your phone for several minutes after installing rear glass; a stack of heavy books can aid bonding process.
