Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Battery Replacement

Do not attempt to repair a swollen battery without proper precautions.

  • Discharge your battery below 25% before disassembling for safety.
  • Use this guide to replace or remove the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 battery.
  • Reattach components using replacement adhesive during reassembly.

Step 1 | Heat the rear glass

Step 1 image

Be cautious not to overheat the phone when using a heat source.

  • Prepare an iOpener and apply it to the rear glass for at least two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but keep the phone away from direct heat sources.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Secure a suction handle to the rear glass's bottom edge, as close to the edge as possible.

If the rear glass is cracked, the suction handle may not stick; use strong tape or superglue to secure it in place and allow it to cure.

  • Lift the rear glass with the suction handle, creating a small gap between the back cover and frame.
  • If needed, apply more heat to soften the adhesive, following iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.

Insert an opening pick into the created gap and slide it to the bottom right corner to slice the adhesive.

Leave the opening pick in place to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 3 | Slice the adhesive

Insert a second opening pick at the bottom edge.

  • Slide it to the bottom left to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave both in place to prevent resealing.

Step 4 | Slice the adhesive

If the adhesive becomes hard to cut, it has most likely cooled down.

  • Reheat the adhesive using your iOpener for one to two minutes.
  • Insert a third opening pick at the bottom left corner of your phone.
  • Slide the opening pick along the left edge to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in the top left corner to prevent resealing.

Step 5

Insert a fourth opening pick at the top left corner.

  • Slide it along the top edge to cut the adhesive.
  • Leave it in place, especially near the top right corner, to prevent resealing.

Step 6

Insert a fifth opening pick underneath the top right corner.

  • Slide the opening pick along the right edge of the rear glass to slice the remaining adhesive.
  • Do not remove the rear glass all the way yet — the camera cover and fingerprint assembly are still attached.

Step 7 | Open your phone

Avoid straining the fingerprint cable.

  • Fold the rear glass to the right side, as when opening a book's cover.

Step 8 | Disconnect the fingerprint reader

  • Disconnect the fingerprint reader using a spudger by prying the connector straight up.
  • Remove the rear glass assembly.

Step 9 | Unfasten the motherboard cover screws

Step 9 image
  • Remove the motherboard cover using a screwdriver.
    • Remove ten Phillips screws (3.9 mm long).
    • Remove one additional Phillips screw (3.4 mm long).

Step 10 | Pry up the motherboard cover

Insert the tip of an opening pick underneath the bottom left edge of the motherboard cover.

  • Ensure insertion depth does not exceed 3-4 mm to prevent motherboard damage.
  • Slide the opening pick along the left edge of the motherboard cover to release the plastic clips and pry it up.

Do not fold cables sharply to prevent damage.

  • Fold the display flex cable towards the charging port for access to the battery.
  • To secure it, use a small piece of tape on your work surface if needed.
  • Repeat by folding the interconnect flex cable towards the charging port.

Step 17 | Remove the stretch-release adhesive

Avoid puncturing the battery with sharp tools.

  • Peel down both battery adhesive pull-tabs using a pair of tweezers or a clean fingernail.
  • The tabs are located on the bottom edge of the battery.

Step 18 | Remove the pull-tabs

Step 18 image

Thumbnail 2

Do not press down on the battery.

  • Grab the pull-tab using tweezers or your fingers and slowly pull it away from the battery towards the bottom edge of the phone.
  • Pull with enough tension to maintain strip tautness, but avoid forcing it. Allow ample time for the adhesive to stretch and release under the battery.
  • Hold the Redmi by its sides to prevent accidental pressure on the battery.
  • Maintain a flat, unwrinkled strip and try to pull evenly across the entire width, rather than focusing on one area.
  • Pull at a low angle to avoid snagging the strip on the battery edge.

If the adhesive breaks off, attempt retrieval with your fingers or blunt tweezers and continue pulling. Do not pry under the battery.

Step 19

Step 19 image

Do not attempt to force the battery removal.

  • Repeat the pull-tab removal procedure on the second tab.
  • Keep the strip flat and unwrinkled, avoiding pressure on the battery.
  • Pull at a low angle to avoid damage.

If adhesive breaks off, apply isopropyl alcohol (over 90% concentration) under the edge of the battery.

  • Wait one minute for the solution to weaken the adhesive.
  • Use a flat tool (opening pick or plastic card) to gently lift the battery.

Avoid deforming or puncturing the battery with your pry tool at all times.

Step 20 | Remove the battery

Remove the battery.

  • If alcohol solution remains in the phone, wipe it off or allow it to air dry.
  • Do not install a damaged or deformed battery — potential safety hazard.

Temporarily reconnect battery to motherboard during reassembly for alignment. Disconnect after seating.
