Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Screen and Metal case Replacement

Never use a damaged battery — risk of explosion or destruction.

  • If purchasing separately, install the metal case and LCD display in separate steps using both guides.
  • Consider replacing the old battery with a new one during this repair.

Use an adhesive removal solution when reusing the old battery to avoid permanent damage.

Step 1 | Loosen the rear glass adhesive

Step 1 image

Apply heat with caution to avoid damage or injury.

  • Heat the iOpener and apply it to the rear glass for at least two minutes.
  • This should loosen the adhesive underneath, making it easier to remove the rear glass.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Step 2 image

Thumbnail 3

Secure a suction handle to the bottom edge of the rear glass, as close to the edge as possible.

If your rear glass is badly cracked, cover it with clear packing tape for better suction.

  • Lift the rear glass with the suction handle to create a small gap between the glass and frame.
  • Apply more heat if necessary to soften the adhesive, following iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.

Insert an opening pick into the gap and slide it to the bottom right corner to slice the adhesive.

Step 3 | Slice the bottom edge adhesive

Step 3 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert a second opening pick at the top right corner.

  • Slide it down towards the bottom left corner to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave both opening picks in place to prevent resealing.

Step 4 | Slice the lefthand-side adhesive

Step 4 image

Thumbnail 3

Reheating may be necessary if the adhesive becomes hard to cut.

  • Insert a third iOpener near the bottom left corner.
  • Slide it along the left edge, cutting through the rear glass adhesive.
  • Leave the pick at the top left corner in place to prevent resealing.

Step 5 | Slice the top edge adhesive

Step 5 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert a fourth opening pick under the top left corner of the rear glass.

  • Slide the pick along the top edge of the phone to slice the rear glass adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in the top right corner to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 6 | Slice the righthand-side adhesive

Step 6 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert a fifth opening pick at the top right corner.

  • Slide the pick along the right edge, slicing remaining adhesive.
  • Avoid removing rear glass completely – fingerprint sensor is still attached to motherboard.

Step 7 | Open up the phone assembly

Step 7 image

Thumbnail 3

Hold the rear glass with both hands and carefully fold it towards the left side of the phone assembly, as if opening a book.

Avoid stretching or tugging on the fingerprint flex cable during this process to prevent damage.

Step 8 | Removing cable protecting plates

Step 8 image

Locate the screws securing the protective metal plate.

  • Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the highlighted screws on the left and right connectors.
  • Remove the metal plates with your fingers or a pair of tweezers.

Step 9 | Unplugging the ribbon cables

Step 9 image

  • Pry up the cable connector with a prying tool to disconnect it from the board.
  • Pry up the battery and power cables on the right side in the same manner.

Step 10 | Removing top plastic shell

Step 10 image

Thumbnail 3

Remove the Xiaomi Label sticker, if present, to access one screw.

  • Unscrew all seven highlighted screws with a Phillips screwdriver.
  • Lift up the plastic shell using tweezers or a prying tool. Be gentle and avoid forcing any joints.
  • Continue until the shell is loose, then unplug the ribbon cable of the touch sensor as shown previously.

Step 11 | Remove Electronics

Step 11 image

Thumbnail 3

Be cautious when lifting electronics from housing, as they are held by thermal paste and glue.

  • Use a pair of tweezers to unplug the antenna, as shown in the first picture.
  • Lift off the electronics carefully, applying gentle jiggling motion if necessary for removal.
  • Avoid using prying tools near sensitive electronic components to prevent damage or breakage.

Step 12 | Clean the thermal paste

Step 12 image

Thumbnail 2

Remove the motherboard and thoroughly clean it with isopropyl alcohol using a cotton swab.

  • Use a new earbud soaked in isopropyl alcohol to gently scrape off the old thermal compound or any grease buildup on the CPU die.
  • Once cleaned, apply a thin layer of new thermal paste directly to the CPU die.

Step 13 | Remove proximity sensor

Step 13 image

Remove the proximity sensor from the case.

  • Lift the proximity sensor using a pair of tweezers.
  • Alternatively, lift it with your bare fingers.

Be careful not to touch any internal components.

Remove the blue plastic component highlighted in the picture.

  • Lift the blue plastic component using a pair of tweezers.
  • Alternatively, lift it with your bare fingers.

Step 14 | Remove the speaker

Unscrew the 8 Phillips screws indicated.

  • Lift the speaker module using your fingernails or a prying tool.
  • Disconnect and set aside the ribbon cable from its connector.

Step 15 | Remove Bottom Electronics

Step 15 image

Thumbnail 2

Remove the single screw securing the bottom module.

  • Disconnect the antenna connector, as shown in the second picture.
  • Use a prying tool to gently loosen the adhesive, then lift the module.

Avoid placing tools under electronic components; instead, use flat PCB areas.

Prefer plastic tools over metal ones to prevent damage or short circuits.

Step 16 | Start reassembling in the new case

Step 16 image

Thumbnail 2

Reassemble the components in the new case by following these steps:

  • Install the proximity sensor and blue plastic piece, removing any protective film.
  • Pierce any remaining protective films from the copper heater sink.
  • Apply a minimal amount of thermal paste to the heat sink as shown in the picture.

  • Place the motherboard back into position, gently pushing it in until firmly seated.

Step 17 | Secure the top electronics

Step 17 image

Thumbnail 3

Reattach the fingerprint sensor cable connector to its housing.

  • Insert the plastic shell over the circuitry until it falls into place in the groove.
  • Screw back in the seven highlighted screws.
  • Plug the antenna cable back in, or remove and replace it if necessary.

Step 18 | Secure back the bottom electronics

Step 18 image

Remove protective plastic film from components, if present.

  • Place board back into groove until firmly seated.
  • Reconnect ribbon cable.

Be careful with cables and films during assembly; use tape for assistance if needed.

Secure speaker with eight screws as described in step seven.

Step 19 | (Re)Place the Battery

Step 19 image

Thumbnail 3

Do not reuse a damaged or compromised battery.

  • Check for the highlighted plastic piece; if absent, transfer it from the old phone as it secures volume and power buttons.
  • Place the button (if removed) in its only possible direction.

Incorrect battery installation may cause damage or risk to the device.

  • Peel adhesive film, then install the battery as shown in the diagram.
  • Reconnect the Screen and Power ribbon cables.
  • Replace protective metal shells on left and right connectors, as per the final picture.

If you damaged your original battery during removal, discard it and use a new one to avoid potential harm to the device.

Step 20 | Close your phone

Step 20 image

Thumbnail 3

Ensure phone works correctly before closing.

  • Try turning on and charging the phone to troubleshoot issues.
  • To close, apply B-7000 glass glue or original adhesive around perimeter (not rear glass).
  • Gently close rear glass with even pressure, then use screen clamps for perfect adhesion.
  • Apply constant pressure for several hours to ensure strong seal.

If phone separates, reheat and remove adhesive with isopropyl alcohol; start again.

  • Minor glue overflow will be removable once dried, using fingernails or isopropyl alcohol.
