Discharge the battery below 25% for safety and to prevent thermal damage.
Prepare an iOpener and apply it to the back cover for at least two minutes to loosen the adhesive underneath.
Use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate with caution - overheat risk damaging phone display and internal battery.
Secure a suction handle to the bottom edge of the back cover, as close as possible.
If the back cover is cracked, it may not stick; use strong tape or superglue and allow to cure before proceeding.
Insert an opening pick into the created gap.
Slide the opening pick to the bottom right corner, slicing the adhesive.
Leave the opening pick in place to prevent resealing of the adhesive.
Leave the picks in place to prevent re-adhesion.
If the adhesive becomes hard to cut, it has likely cooled down.
Insert opening pick into top left corner of phone.
Insert the fifth opening pick at the top right corner.
Remove the back cover.
Clean the area with isopropyl alcohol (at least 90%) before applying new adhesive.
Remove the four 3.9 mm Phillips screws securing the camera cover.
Insert an opening pick into the gap between the left edge of the camera cover and the midframe.
Remove camera cover.
Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the thirteen 3.9 mm-long screws securing the midframe.
Insert a SIM eject tool, SIM eject bit, or straightened paper clip into the hole on the SIM tray located at the left edge of the phone.
Press directly into the hole to avoid damaging the SIM card or tray.
Disconnect the power and volume button flex cable by gently prying the connector straight up with a spudger.
Locate the SIM tray slot, which is found on the left edge of the phone.
Insert an opening pick into the left edge of the phone.
Slide the opening pick along the bottom edge of the phone to release the plastic clips.
Insert an opening pick into the phone's right edge and gently slide it down to disengage the plastic clips.
Slide the opening pick along the top edge of the phone.
The power and volume button flex cable must be freed from any tangles or constraints before removing the midframe.
Disconnect the battery flex cable using a spudger, prying the connector straight up.
Be cautious when handling the battery — risk of puncture and chemical release.
Grasp the first pull-tab with a tweezers or your fingers.
If the adhesive breaks off underneath the battery, do not pry under it. Continue with the next step if retrieval is impossible.
Repeat the pull-tab removal procedure for the second tab.
If adhesive breaks off underneath the battery and can't be retrieved, apply 2-3 drops of high concentration (over 90%) isopropyl alcohol under the edge of the battery where the broken strip(s) are located.
Gently lift the battery using the flat end of a spudger, without applying force or leverage that could deform or puncture the battery. If needed, apply additional drops of alcohol to further weaken the adhesive.
Never reinstall a damaged or deformed battery — potential safety hazard.
Secure the new battery with pre-cut adhesive or double-sided tape, applying it in original positions, not directly onto the battery.
