Xiaomi Redmi Go Screen and Battery Replacement

This tutorial guides you through disassembling a Xiaomi Redmi Go smartphone for screen, battery, or other component replacement (vibrator, speaker, earpiece, volume on/off buttons, motherboard, charger module).

  • Replacing the battery is relatively straightforward.
  • However, replacing the screen requires careful disassembly and reinstallation of all components due to their intricate mounting on the original frame.

Step 1 | Tools required

Acquire an opening pick or strong fingernail to create a gap between the case and screen.

  • Use a small Phillips screwdriver for further disassembly.
  • A plastic spudger is required to disconnect cables without damage.
  • A box cutter or X-Acto knife is needed to remove the vibrator and Power/Volume button cable.

Use contact glue (liquid neoprene) to reattach removed parts, such as the vibrator, Power/Volume button cable, charger cable, and battery.

Step 2 | Remove the SIM and SD card holders

Remove SIM and SD card holders first.

  • Locate the SIM and SD card holders at the top of the device.
  • Pull out the SIM holder, then slide out the SD card holder.
  • The case can now be unclipped for further access.

Step 3 | Open the Case

This operation carries a significant risk of damaging the screen; proceed with caution.

  • Insert a fingernail or opening pick between the card holders on the left side, creating a gap for an opening pick.
  • Leave an opening pick in place and continue unclipping around the case by sliding a thumbnail or pick between the screen and case.

Avoid using a knife to separate the glass from the screen; it can cause serious damage.

  • Turn counter-clockwise to go around the bottom and right side of the screen, taking care not to damage push buttons.
  • Finish unclipping from the top of the screen.

The rear case is made of plastic and will withstand required manipulations without warping.

Step 4 | Remove the Loudspeaker

Remove all screws from the loudspeaker at the bottom of the phone.

  • Note that one screw near the top right has an adhesive indicator sticker (MI logo).
  • Peel off the loudspeaker assembly carefully.

Step 5 | Remove the Charger Module

Risk of damaging the coax cable or other components due to improper handling.

  • Disconnect the charger module cable at the bottom right of the battery.
  • Pry off the charger module starting from the left edge, taking care not to damage nearby components.
  • Be mindful of the small black coax cable, which connects the charger module to the motherboard.

Step 6 | Remove the Motherboard Midframe

Twisting the plastic cover may cause damage.

  • Remove the 8 mounting screws from the motherboard cover, including the one hidden by the opening indicator at the bottom left.
  • Use a screw mat to ensure correct screw reinstallation during assembly.

To avoid damaging the plastic cover, carefully unclip it using a small screwdriver on one of the screen's corners.

Step 7 | Remove the Battery

Be careful not to touch the capacitor terminals — risk of electric shock.

  • Peel off the 2 adhesive tabs from the bottom of the battery.
  • One at a time, pull each tab around pliers or a screwdriver until it stretches to approximately 20-30 cm in length.
  • Disconnect the battery cable located at the bottom of the motherboard between the screen connector and charger module connector.
  • Remove the battery.

Step 8 | Remove the Charging Flex Cable

If a replacement frame does not include a charging cable, do not damage the old one when removing it.

  • Disconnect the charger module cable located at the bottom right of the motherboard.
  • Remove any exposed charger cable from the right side of the frame if it's not included with the new screen.
  • Handle the flex cable carefully to avoid exposing it to dust and degrading its adhesive.

Step 9 | Remove the Motherboard

Careful disconnection is required for all cables and connectors.

  • Disconnect the touch connector located at the top right of the motherboard.
  • Disconnect the volume/power cable connector on the left side.
  • Disconnect the screen cable connector at the bottom left.
  • Lift the motherboard from the bottom to remove it, taking care not to lose the black rubber gasket surrounding the camera.
  • Do not forget to disconnect the black coax cable connecting the motherboard to the charger module.

Step 10 | Remove the Vibrator

Remove adhesive under vibrator's circuit using a sharp blade.

Careful not to damage the circuit.

  • Use a sharp blade to remove remaining glue under the vibrator.
  • Position vibrator on new screen frame, ensuring correct placement between metal lugs.

To apply neoprene glue:

  • Apply a small dot of glue to the vibrator motor.
  • Press motor into place, allowing glue to spread evenly.
  • Immediately remove excess glue and let it dry for a few minutes.

Once glue is no longer liquid but still sticky, press motor into final position. Bond will be solid after a few hours.

Step 11 | Remove the Earpiece Speaker

The earpiece speaker must be removed with a small flat screwdriver.

  • Locate the earpiece speaker at the top of the phone.
  • Place it on the new screen, ensuring correct orientation is maintained.

The copper blades' contact points are oriented downwards; be cautious not to mix them up.

Step 12 | Remove the Power and Volume Buttons

Deform or damage to the flex cable can prevent proper reinstallation.

  • Insert a flat spudger or sharp blade between screen frame and power/volume button cable on left telephone side, cutting adhesive to release cable.
  • Handle the flex cable carefully to avoid deforming it, ensuring it remains flat for reinstallation.
  • Remove glue from back of flex cable using a fingernail or plastic spudger.
  • Position cable on new chassis with top flush against metal edge, ensuring proper alignment.
  • Apply thin line of neoprene glue to secure the flex cable in place (refer to step 9 for gluing instructions).

Step 13 | Reassemble the Motherboard

  • Be careful when handling the touch screen flex connector — risk of damage.

  • Fold the touch screen flex connector at the top left upwards.

Position the motherboard on the new screen, ensuring the headphone jack and front camera are correctly seated in their respective slots. Install the rubber seal for the rear camera.

  • Verify the card is aligned with the two small metal guide pins (circled in green) in the chassis.
  • Temporarily secure the motherboard using one of the midframe cover's 8 screws.

The connection between components is critical to proper functioning — ensure all connections are secure.

  • Plug in the touch screen connector at the top right of the motherboard.
  • Connect the power and volume button cable, located to the left of the motherboard.
  • Secure the screen cable at the bottom left of the motherboard.

To secure cables, press gently in the center of the connector with a flat object (like your finger) until you feel a "click".

Step 14 | Fit the Charging Assembly

Remove the blue stickers from the new screen.

  • The stickers protect the adhesive for the charger module and micro USB connector.
  • Position the charger module over the two small metal lugs on the chassis:
    • A small cylindrical point at top right.
    • A small protrusion above and to the right of the micro USB connector.

Step 15 | Installing the Charging Flex Cable

  • Connect the charger flex cable to both the motherboard and the charger module.
  • Apply a thin line of neoprene glue along the charger cable path on the screen frame.

  • Press the flex cable onto the frame to spread the glue, then wait a few minutes.
  • Attach the cable to the chassis from the center outwards, smoothing it around the connectors without forcing it excessively.
  • Ensure the black coax antenna cable is correctly seated in its channel connecting the charger module to the motherboard.

Step 16 | Install the Battery

Apply 2 dots of contact adhesive (neoprene) to the chassis at the base of the battery.

Be careful not to apply too much glue, as this may make future battery replacement more difficult.

  • Position the battery in its location and allow the glue to distribute evenly on both the battery and chassis.
  • Immediately remove the battery from its location.

Wait a few minutes for the adhesive to set before proceeding.

  • Reconnect the battery flex cable to the motherboard.

Step 17 | Install the Lower Speaker

Position the loudspeaker module and install its 6 screws.

  • Double-check on the right that the black coax antenna cable is correctly positioned in its groove to avoid connectivity issues.

  • The black coax antenna cable connects the charger module and the motherboard.

Step 18 | Check for Proper Operation

Perform thorough quality control before final assembly.

  • Verify the vibrator functions by turning on the phone.
  • Take photos with and without flash to check rear camera functionality.
  • Take a selfie to verify front camera, flash, and screen performance.

During testing, ensure the phone is fully charged or has sufficient power to avoid false results.

  • Make a call to test the microphone and earpiece speaker functionality.
  • Hold your hand close to the screen during the call to check proximity sensor operation.
  • Check loudspeaker performance by playing music or using speakerphone mode.

Properly calibrate any test applications before using them for quality control.

  • Verify touchscreen functionality with a drawing application or test app.

You have successfully completed thorough testing. Proceed to final assembly.

Step 19 | Replace the Motherboard Midframe

Check that the rear camera rubber surround is securely in place.

  • Remove the temporary screw holding the motherboard.
  • Careful not to damage any components — risk of electrical shock.

  • Reposition and reclip the motherboard protective cover, then install its 8 screws.

Step 20 | Reassemble the Rear Case

Reattach the rear case starting at the bottom and working upwards in a symmetrical pattern on both left and right sides.

  • If the rear case does not fit properly, check that the battery and speaker unit are correctly positioned.
  • Also, ensure the midframe cover on the motherboard is securely installed.

Step 21 | Reinsert the SIM and SD Cards

Reinsert the SIM card and SD memory card.

Note that the circuit contacts face towards the back of the phone.
