Xiaomi Mi A2 Motherboard Replacement

Be extremely cautious when handling electrical components — risk of damage or injury.

  • Prepare a clean workspace to prevent any short circuits or damage.
  • Disassemble the phone carefully, following all previous guides for your specific model.

Step 1 | Screen

Ensure phone is powered down.

  • Extract the SIM card from the device.
  • Energize static protection by making contact with a conductive material.

Remove two 2.7mm Pentalobe #2 screws from the phone's bottom.

Acquire a suction cup tool and position it near the phone's bottom.

  • Pull up on the suction cup to gently lift the LCD Panel from the phone body.
  • Starting at the bottom, insert a plastic opening tool between the LCD and phone gaps.
  • Utilize the plastic opening tool and picks to unhook clips around the panel's edges.

Flip the phone screen towards the bottom and lay it facing down, ensuring not to snag any internal components.

Bending or folding the ribbon cable excessively may damage it.

  • Remove the metal bracket to access the ribbon cable connectors.
  • Take out the three 2.4mm Philips #0 screws.

Remove the battery connector using a plastic spudger, carefully prying it off from underneath.

  • Next, use a plastic spudger to lift the screen connector ribbon cable from underneath.
  • The panel will be free to remove once the ribbon cables are disconnected.

Step 6 | USB Port

Remove the two 3.8mm Phillips #0 screws securing the lower metal bracket.

Remove the Xiaomi loudspeaker.

  • Locate and remove three Phillips #0 screws: two on the bottom and one upper-right screw under the Xiaomi logo sticker, which is 2.4mm in size.

Unplug the antenna wire using a spudger tool.

  • Remove a Phillips #0 screw (2.4mm) located near the vibration motor.

Flip the board over towards the battery to access the ribbon cable connector underneath the sub-board.

  • Use a spudger tool to remove the cable from the ribbon cable connector.
  • The USB Connector board can now be removed and replaced.

Step 10 | Battery

Proceed with extreme caution — avoid bending or puncturing the battery.

  • Use tweezers to grasp the two glued pull tabs on the bottom of the battery.
  • Pull the tabs downwards slowly to release the adhesive from the battery.

Remove the battery from its housing carefully.

The component can now be replaced.

Step 12 | Front Camera

Use a plastic spudger to carefully pry the front camera ribbon cable away from the motherboard.

Use plastic tip tweezers to carefully remove the front camera from the back housing.

Step 14 | Motherboard

  • Disconnect the Motherboard to SUB board flex using a plastic spudger.
  • Separate the fingerprint sensor connector from the motherboard with a plastic spudger.

Step 15

  • Remove the two 2 mm and two 2.5 mm Philips #0 screws from the motherboard.
  • Also, remove the one 1.5 mm Philips #0 screw from the motherboard.

Step 16

Use the pointed end of a plastic spudger to gently pry the motherboard away from the back housing.

Use fine tipped tweezers to carefully lift and remove the network antenna wire from the back of the motherboard.

Use a plastic spudger to gently pry loose the adhered copper sheeting covering the rear cameras.

  • For delicate areas, employ a pair of plastic tipped tweezers for added control.

Step 19

  • Use a plastic spudger to gently pry apart the rear camera ribbon cables from the motherboard.
  • Gently lift out the rear cameras from their sockets on the motherboard.
