A discharged battery reduces risk of fire in case of accidental damage.

  • Power off the phone completely.
  • Remove all external accessories such as cases, cables, and the SIM card tray.

Step 2 | Unclip the back cover

Be cautious when prying the back cover — only target the plastic frame and avoid gaps between the frame and glass.

  • Insert a plastic pick into the gap above the SIM card tray.
  • Slide it down the long edge of the phone, separating the plastic as you go.
  • Continue prying all around the phone until the back cover is loose and ready to remove.

Step 3 | Disconnect the fingerprint sensor

Risk of short circuit when using metal tools.

Skipping this step may damage the adhesive strips required for the next step.

  • Remove the five Phillips screws, one of which is secured by a security sticker.
  • Pry up the speaker module with care and set it aside.

Step 6 | Remove the stretchy adhesive strips

Be careful not to damage the orange flex connector, located to the right of the adhesive strips.

  • Firmly grip one of the black pieces of tape with tweezers and start peeling it up.
  • When free, pull gently at a low angle on the white stretch release adhesive, as it can break easily.
  • Continue pulling until the entire strip is removed; it may stretch to several times its original length.

If the strip breaks off underneath the battery, refer to the next step for guidance.

  • Repeat the process for the other adhesive strip.

Step 7 | If the strips break off

Apply 99% isopropyl alcohol under the broken strip using a syringe.

  • Wait for several minutes to allow the alcohol to flow and break up the adhesive.
  • Once loosened, use a plastic pick or suction cup to remove the battery.
  • Avoid forcing the battery if the adhesive is still strong — instead apply more alcohol as needed.
