Discharge the battery below 25% for safe disassembly and prevent thermal events.
Prepare an iOpener and apply it to the rear glass for at least two minutes.
Excessive heat can damage the display or internal battery, so be cautious when using a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate if you choose to use one.
Secure a suction handle to the bottom edge of the rear glass, as close to the edge as possible.
If the rear glass is cracked, the suction handle may not stick; try lifting it with strong tape or apply superglue and allow it to cure before proceeding.
Insert an opening pick into the gap, then slide it to the bottom right corner to slice the adhesive.
Leave the opening pick in place to prevent the adhesive from resealing.
Insert a second opening pick at the bottom edge.
Reheat the adhesive with your iOpener for 1-2 minutes if it becomes hard to cut.
Insert a 4th opening pick under the top left corner.
Insert a fifth opening pick under the top right corner.
Insert a plastic spudger or credit card into the gap between the rear glass and rear camera.
Remove the rear glass.
Apply strong, steady pressure to your phone for several minutes after installing the rear glass to help form a good bond.
Remove the motherboard cover using a Phillips screwdriver. You will need to unscrew:
Insert the tip of an opening pick under the left edge of the motherboard cover.
Remove the motherboard cover using a pair of tweezers or your bare fingers.
Disconnect the battery connector using a spudger.
Use a spudger to pry the interconnect cable connector straight up out of its socket.
Avoid sharp bends when handling the interconnect flex cable to prevent damage.
Avoid damaging the battery — puncture or bending may cause chemical leaks or thermal events.
Repeat the pull-tab procedure for the remaining two tabs.
Hold the pull-tab end marked with a 3 and gently pull up on the orange adhesive strip to remove the battery.
Be prepared for possible resistance from the adhesive tabs, which can require some force to separate.
Alternatively, if the battery is stuck in place, apply a heated iOpener to the center of the display to loosen the underlying adhesive before removal.
Peel off the battery from the remaining adhesive.
Never reinstall a damaged or deformed battery — safety hazard risk.
For correct positioning, apply new adhesive at old locations, not directly on the battery.
Temporarily reconnect battery to motherboard during reassembly for alignment — disconnect after seating.
