Xiaomi Mi 9 Rear Camera Glass With Sensors Replacement

This repair guide is for replacing a broken rear camera lens on the Xiaomi Mi 9, and you will require new adhesive for reassembly.

Step 1 | Rear Glass

Switch off your phone.

  • Apply a iOpener to the rear glass and heat it until it's warm.
  • Leave the iOpener on the rear glass for at least two minutes to loosen the adhesive.

Secure a suction handle to the lower edge of the rear glass.

  • If the rear glass is cracked, attach with strong tape or superglue for better grip.
  • Lift the rear glass with the suction handle to create a gap between the glass and frame.

Insert an opening pick into the gap.

If stuck, apply more heat following iOpener guidelines to avoid overheating.

Slide the opening pick to the bottom right corner of the phone.

Insert a second opening pick at the top right edge.

  • Slide it to the bottom left corner to cut the adhesive.
  • Leave both opening picks in place to prevent resealing.

Insert a third opening pick at the bottom left corner.

  • Begin sliding the opening pick from the bottom left corner along the side of the device.
  • Be careful not to damage the rear cameras; only insert the tip of the opening pick.

  • If the adhesive becomes hard to cut, reheat it with your iOpener if necessary.
  • Leave one pick in place at the top left corner to prevent the adhesive from reforming.

Insert a fourth opening pick under the top left corner of the rear glass.

  • Slide the opening pick along the top to cut the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in the top right corner to prevent resealing.

  • Insert a fifth opening pick into the top right corner of the phone.
  • Use the opening pick to slide along the right edge and break any remaining adhesive.

Remove the rear glass with care.

  • Take out the old adhesive completely.
  • Clean the affected areas using isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth.

Step 8 | Motherboard Cover with Charging Coil

Check for a tamper-evident sticker before removing screws.

  • Remove all ten Phillips #00 screws (3 mm length) using a screwdriver.

Insert an opening pick into the top right corner of the motherboard cover.

  • Twist the pick sideways to pry up the motherboard cover, lifting it slightly.

Remove the motherboard cover, taking care to include the charging coil and NFC antenna.

Step 11 | Battery Disconnect

Disconnect the battery flex cable by prying it loose with a spudger.

Step 12 | Rear Camera Glass with Sensors

  • Use the flat end of a spudger to carefully pry up the sensor cable.
  • Continue prying until the cable is fully disconnected from the rear camera glass.

Step 13

Remove the rear camera glass.
