Xiaomi Mi 8 Motherboard Cover with NFC Replacement

This guide assists with removing and replacing the Xiaomi Mi 8 motherboard cover, which includes the NFC antenna. Replacement adhesive is required for reattaching components during reassembly.

Step 1 | Rear Glass

Step 1 image

Apply a iOpener to the rear glass for at least two minutes.

  • Position the iOpener so that it heats the entire length of the rear glass.
  • Let it heat the adhesive beneath the edges for the full two minutes before proceeding.

Step 2

Secure a suction handle to the lower edge of the rear glass.

  • If the rear glass is cracked, use strong tape or superglue to secure the suction handle.
  • Lift the rear glass with the suction handle to create a gap between the glass and frame.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap.

If the glass does not budge, apply more heat as per iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.

  • Slide the opening pick to the bottom right corner of the phone.
  • Step 3

    • Insert another opening pick near the bottom left corner and gently slide it downward.
    • Keep both opening picks in place, as removing them can allow the adhesive to seal again.

Insert a third opening pick at the bottom left corner.

    • Slide the opening pick along the side of the Xiaomi Mi 8, starting from the bottom left corner to cut the adhesive.
    • Avoid damaging the fingerprint flex cable; only insert the tip of the opening pick, and do not push too far.
    • If you accidentally insert the opening pick too deep, it may cut the cable.

    • As the adhesive cools, it will harden; if needed, use your iOpener to reheat and soften the adhesive for easier removal.
    • Leave the opening pick in the top left corner to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

    Step 5

Insert opening pick 4 under top-left corner of rear glass.

    • Slide it along top edge to break adhesive.
    • Leave it in top-right corner to prevent re-adhesion.

Use a spudger to disconnect the fingerprint flex cable.

    • Remove the rear glass using the spudger.
    • Remove any remaining adhesive from the phone and clean the glued areas with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth before reassembly.

    • Apply pressure to the rear glass for several minutes after installation to form a good bond.

Use a stack of heavy books on top of the phone to apply even pressure.
