This guide assists with removing and replacing the Xiaomi Mi 8 motherboard cover, which includes the NFC antenna. Replacement adhesive is required for reattaching components during reassembly.
Apply a iOpener to the rear glass for at least two minutes.
Secure a suction handle to the lower edge of the rear glass.
If the glass does not budge, apply more heat as per iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.
Insert a third opening pick at the bottom left corner.
If you accidentally insert the opening pick too deep, it may cut the cable.
Insert opening pick 4 under top-left corner of rear glass.
Insert a fifth opening pick at the top right corner of the phone.
Do not attempt to remove the rear glass completely yet — risk of damaging the fingerprint flex cable.
Lift the rear glass carefully, then fold it towards the left side to expose the fingerprint flex connector.
Use a spudger to disconnect the fingerprint flex cable.
Remove any remaining adhesive from the phone and clean the glued areas with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth before reassembly.
Use a stack of heavy books on top of the phone to apply even pressure.
Remove the motherboard cover.
Careful removal of the motherboard cover, which includes the NFC antenna, is necessary.
