This repair guide is for replacing a broken or faulty fingerprint sensor on the Xiaomi Mi 8.
Apply iOpener to rear glass, heating it until it becomes flexible.
Secure a suction handle to the lower edge of the rear glass, as close to the edge as possible.
If the glass won't budge, apply more heat as instructed with the iOpener to avoid overheating.
Insert a second opening pick into the lower left corner of the device.
Insert a third opening pick at the bottom left corner.
Be aware of the fingerprint flex cable and only insert the tip of the opening pick to avoid cutting it.
Insert a pick into the top left corner of the rear glass.
Insert a fifth opening pick at the top right corner of the phone.
Do not attempt to fully remove the rear glass yet to avoid damaging the motherboard.
Careful not to damage the rear glass — be cautious of sharp edges.
Risk of damage if adhesive is not properly removed.
For reassembly, clean and prepare areas with existing adhesive by:
Allow several minutes for adhesive to bond after installing rear glass.
Apply pressure by placing heavy items, such as books, on top of the phone.
Place the iOpener on the rear glass and let it heat up for 2 minutes.
Slide an opening pick under the fingerprint flex cable to gently release its mild adhesive from the rear glass.
Insert an opening pick under the top right corner of the fingerprint sensor.
Position the opening pick at the center of the sensor.
Remove the fingerprint sensor.
