Xiaomi Mi 8 Battery Replacement

Discharge the battery to at least 25% before disassembly to prevent a potential thermal hazard.

  • Replace a worn-out or dead Xiaomi Mi 8 battery with the correct replacement.
  • If the original battery is swollen, follow proper safety protocols.
  • Reassemble using new adhesive for components to ensure secure reattachment.

Step 1 | Rear Glass

Step 1 image

Apply heat to the rear glass with an iOpener for 2 minutes.

  • Target the edges of the rear glass where the adhesive is located.
  • The iOpener should be kept on the adhesive for at least 2 minutes to loosen it.

Secure a suction handle to the lower rear glass edge, as close as possible.

  • If the glass is cracked, use strong tape or superglue to attach the suction handle and allow it to cure.

A cracked glass may prevent proper suction. Apply caution when using strong tape or superglue.

Lift the rear glass with the suction handle, creating a gap between the glass and frame.

  • Insert an opening pick into the gap.

If the glass doesn't budge, apply more heat to soften the adhesive. Follow iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.

Slide the opening pick to the bottom right corner of the phone.

Insert a third opening pick at the bottom left corner.

  • Slide the opening pick along the side, starting from the bottom left corner, to cut the adhesive.
  • Be cautious of the fingerprint flex cable and only insert the tip of the opening pick.

  • If the adhesive becomes too hard to cut, reheat it with your iOpener if necessary.

  • Leave the third opening pick in place at the top left corner to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

  • Disconnect and remove the rear glass.
  • Prepare for reassembly by thoroughly cleaning the glued areas with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth, removing any remaining adhesive.

Apply pressure to the rear glass for several minutes after installation to ensure proper bonding. A stack of heavy books on top of the phone can help.
