Xiaomi Mi 4 Rear Facing Camera Replacement

Be prepared for a moderately complex repair.

  • Open the Xiaomi Mi 4 casing.
  • Detach the motherboard from its mounting points.
  • The cover of the Mi 4 will be accessible once the casing is open.

Step 1 | Rear Case/Midframe

Ensure the device is powered down.

  • Insert a pin or paper clip into the hole beside the micro SIM card holder on the side of the phone.
  • The SIM card tray will eject; carefully remove and store it in a safe place.

Use a flat metal spudger and curved metal spudger to create a wedge between the back cover and inner frame.

  • Slowly work around the device's perimeter with the curved spudger, listening for clicking sounds as the cover separates.
  • Once almost completely removed, use a suction-cup tool to carefully lift off the back cover without damaging it.

Remove the 10 1.2mm Phillips head screws from the plastic frame using a 000 Phillips head screwdriver.

  • Also remove the 3 0.5mm Phillips head screws from the plastic frame.

Be careful when prying off the inner frame to avoid damaging it.

  • Use a small plastic opening tool and place it in the slot on the bottom right corner of the inner frame.
  • Pry the inner frame off slowly and carefully.

Step 4 | Battery

Disconnect the battery connectors using tweezers.

  • Remove the tape-like connector from the battery.
  • Take care not to damage the wires. Use tweezers to disconnect the battery's wire from the motherboard.

Use the plastic opening tool to carefully pry the battery from its casing.

Step 6 | Motherboard

Locate the left-hand cable connected to the motherboard.

  • Firmly grasp the wires with a pair of tweezers and gently disconnect the cable.

Careful not to damage the wires or motherboard connector.

Next, find the top right-hand cable connecting the motherboard to the device.

  • Use the tweezers to carefully disconnect this cable as well.

Insert the plastic opening tool into the gap between the motherboard and the internal components.

Step 8 | Rear Facing Camera

Turn the motherboard over to access the underside.

  • Locate the rear camera connector.

Use tweezers to grasp the cable, then gently pull it upwards and away from the motherboard.
