The entire device must be disassembled for replacement of both the screen and LCD.

Step 1 | Hidden screws

Opening the orange screw may void your device's warranty.

  • Remove the SIM tray.
  • Locate two small Phillips screws, one of which is colored orange.

Step 2 | Unclip the back cover

Use a guitar pick to unclip the back cover, especially on newer models where it's quite difficult.

  • Slide the pick between the volume and power button for easier access.
  • Lift up gently to release the first clip, located near the volume + button.

Be careful not to break bigger clips; they may reattach with smaller ones. If this happens, consider replacing the back cover before proceeding.

  • Unclip both upper and lower parts to facilitate removal of the lower part.
  • Consult the back cover photo to identify clip positions.

Step 3 | NFC and Battery

Removing the battery and NFC antenna separately can damage the antenna.

  • Remove the 8 Phillips screws securing the motherboard cover using a screwdriver.
  • The screws also hold the motherboard in place, with two additional screws underneath for extra security.

Do not touch the golden ribbons or force the cover, as the NFC antenna is glued to it.

Step 4 | Unclipping the battery ribbon

Be careful: removing the motherboard incorrectly can result in damage.

  • Unscrew the two Phillips screws near the black circle (vibrator) and camera.
  • Lift the motherboard gently, starting from the vibrator area, to access the clipped volume and power ribbon.
  • The ribbon should unclip if factory glue is properly applied. If not, proceed with caution or consider replacing the volume/power assembly with the screen.

Step 8 | Finishing the Upper Screen Frame parts.

Damage to the antenna wire can result in a "No Service" condition.

  • Unclip the antenna wire from its retaining clip.
  • Pull slowly on the wire to release the plastic/rubber retainer holding it in place. Remove both pieces.

Step 11 | No service gate

Step 11 image

Incorrect clipping of the antenna wire or damage can cause no service.

  • Check if the antenna wire was correctly clipped (step 5.3 and 10).
  • If damaged, try ordering a new antenna wire.
  • If still no service, proceed to troubleshoot software issues.

Step 12 | Lower ribbon

Remove lower ribbon carefully with plastic tools to prevent cuts.

  • Use a plastic tool to lift the ribbon with the help of the USB dock and remaining wire.
  • If you purchased the volume ribbon, you are finished.
  • Otherwise, use a cutter blade from the top of the phone to remove the ribbon.

Step 13 | Sound and On/Off Button

Step 13 image

Using a very slim blade is essential for removing the sound and On/off ribbon without damaging it.

  • Choose a blade that's not too sharp, as cutting the ribbon will ruin it.
  • Insert the blade into the metal track (black) and slide it along to release the ribbon.

Be gentle when lifting out the connector or you may accidentally separate the buttons from the ribbon.

To avoid future issues, consider ordering a new ribbon designed for touch screens (approximately $2 extra).
