Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite Screen Replacement

The frame must not be deformed or damaged as it may cause uneven pressure on the new screen leading to damage.

  • Battery Discharger: Drain battery below 25% before proceeding to prevent risk of explosion.
  • Verify you have the correct replacement screen, noting some come pre-installed in a new frame requiring alternative procedure.
  • Prepare replacement adhesives for back panel and screen.

Step 1 | Eject the SIM card tray

Careful not to insert eject tool into microphone opening.

  • Insert a SIM eject bit, or straightened paper clip, into the hole on the left edge of the phone.
  • Press directly into the hole to eject the SIM card tray.
  • Remove the SIM card tray.

Step 2 | Heat the rear glass

Prepare an iOpener and apply it to the rear glass for at least two minutes to loosen adhesive.

Use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate with caution, avoiding overheating as the display and internal battery may be damaged by excessive heat.

Step 3 | Create a gap

Attach a suction handle to the rear glass's right edge, as near the edge as feasible.

  • If the rear glass is cracked, the suction handle may not adhere. Attempt lifting it with strong tape or superglue it in place and allow it to cure before proceeding.

Use the suction handle to elevate the rear glass, creating a small gap between the glass and frame.

  • If separation is difficult, apply additional heat to further soften the adhesive. Ensure not to overheat by following the iOpener guidelines.
  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.
  • Do not remove the opening pick — this can cause the adhesive to reseal.

    Step 4 | Slice the adhesive

    Insert a second opening pick into the top right corner.

    • Slide it along the right edge to slice the adhesive.
    • Leave the pick in place at the bottom right corner to prevent resealing.

    Reheat the adhesive with an iOpener for 1-2 minutes if it becomes hard to cut.

    • Insert a third opening pick at the bottom right corner of your phone.
    • Slide the opening pick along the bottom edge to slice the adhesive.
    • Leave the opening pick in the bottom left corner to prevent resealing.

    Insert a Y000 pick under the bottom left corner.

    • Slide it up to cut the adhesive along the left edge.
    • Leave the pick in place at top left to prevent reseal.

    Insert a fifth opening pick under the top left corner.

    • Slide the pick along the top edge, slicing the remaining adhesive on the rear glass.

    Step 8 | Remove the rear glass

    Apply strong and steady pressure to ensure proper adhesion.

    • Remove therear glass.
    • Secure with eitherpre-cut adhesive ordouble-sided tape.
    • Press phone firmly for several minutes to aid bonding, using items like a stack of heavy books.

    Step 9 | Unfasten the motherboard cover screws

    Remove the motherboard cover using an 11mm Phillips screwdriver.

    Step 10 | Pry up the motherboard cover

    • Insert the opening pick under the left edge of the motherboard cover.
    • Pry up the motherboard cover with the opening pick.
    • Remove the motherboard cover.

    Step 11 | Disconnect the battery cable

    Disconnect the battery cable using a spudger, prying the connector straight up from its socket.

    Step 12 | Disconnect the SIM card tray cable

    Disconnect the SIM card tray cable from the motherboard using the flat end of a spudger.

    Step 13 | Unscrew the SIM card tray

    Remove the SIM card tray's screws with a Phillips screwdriver.

    • Take out three 3.5 mm screws.
    • Also remove one 3.0 mm screw.

    Step 14 | Remove the SIM card tray

    Remove the SIM card tray from the phone assembly using a pair of blunt nose tweezers.

    Step 15 | Disconnect the display flex cable

    Disconnect the display flex cable using a spudger.

    • Pry the connector straight up from its socket.

    Step 16 | Loosen the display adhesive

    Apply heat to the screen using an iOpener or heat gun for 2 minutes.

    Step 17 | Insert an opening pick

    Ensure the phone's screen is warm before proceeding.

    • Suction Cup: Apply it to the right edge of the phone for leverage.
    • Alternative Method: If cracked, cover with clear packing tape or use strong tape instead.
    • Desperate Measure: Super Glue suction cup to screen as a last resort.

    Take care when handling super glue.

    • Lift the screen with the suction handle, creating a small gap between it and the frame.
    • Insert an opening pick into the gap at midframe-screen junction.

    Step 18 | Slice the adhesive

    Insert the opening pick into the top right corner of the screen and slide it down to cut the adhesive.

    Do not remove the opening pick until you have completed this procedure, as the adhesive may reseal otherwise.

    Insert a second opening pick under the top right corner.

    • Slide it down to the bottom right corner, cutting the adhesive.
    • Leave the picks in place to prevent re-adhesion.

    If adhesive becomes hard to cut, it has cooled down.

    • Reheat with iOpener or heat gun for 1-2 minutes.
    • Insert a new opening pick at the bottom right screen corner.
    • Slide this pick along the bottom edge of the screen to cut adhesive.

    Leave pick in the bottom left corner to prevent resealing.

    • Place an additional opening pick at the bottom left corner.
    • Slide it up along the left edge, cutting the adhesive as you go.
    • Leave the pick in place at the top left to prevent re-adhesion.

    Insert a fifth opening pick under the top left corner.

    • Slide the pick along the top edge of the phone to slice remaining adhesive.
    • Do not remove the display yet, as the display cable is still threaded through the frame.

    Step 23 | Pry up the display connector

    Use the flat end of a spudger to gently pry up the display connector from the midframe.

    Step 24 | Thread the display flex cable through the gap

    Insert the display flex cable into the gap in the midframe.

    Step 25 | Remove the screen

    Remove the screen.

    • Clean the area around the screen with isopropyl alcohol (>90%).
    • Apply new adhesive to cleaned areas as needed.
