Deformed frames can cause mounting issues and uneven pressure damage, so replace it with a new one if necessary.
Some replacement screens come pre-installed in new frames, requiring a different procedure. Ensure you have the correct part before proceeding.
Additional materials needed: replacement adhesive for reassembling components.
Prepare an iOpener and apply it to the back cover for at least two minutes.
Secure a suction handle to the back cover's bottom edge, as close to the edge as possible.
If trouble creating a gap arises, apply more heat to further soften the adhesive, following iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.
Leave the opening pick in place to prevent the adhesive from resealing.
Insert the second opening pick at the bottom edge.
Reheat the adhesive with your iOpener for 1-2 minutes if it becomes hard to cut.
Insert a fourth opening pick under the top left corner.
Insert a fifth opening pick under the top right corner.
Remove the back cover.
Remove the motherboard cover using a Phillips screwdriver (correct size) by unscrewing the eleven 3.9 mm-long screws.
Remove the motherboard cover.
Remove the battery cable using a spudger, prying the connector straight up from its socket.
Careful: Damage to the flex cable can occur.
Do not fold the cable sharply as this can cause damage.
Avoid puncturing or bending the battery as it may leak chemicals or cause a thermal event.
Grab both pull-tab ends labelled A and pull up on the orange adhesive strip to lift the battery.
If reassembling, temporarily reconnect the battery to help with alignment and then disconnect once seated.
Careful not to touch any electrical components.
Disconnect the display flex cable by prying its connector straight up from its socket using a spudger.
Careful not to damage the connector.
Protect the rear camera lenses with a lint-free cloth during repair.
Avoid overheating with hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate.
Apply a suction cup to the bottom edge of the warm screen.
If severely cracked, cover with clear packing tape for suction cup adhesion or use strong tape instead.
As last resort, superglue the suction cup in place.
Insert a pick above the iFlex.
Do not remove the pick, as this will cause the adhesive to reseal.
Insert another opening pick into the screen and gently slide it to the bottom left corner.
Leave this additional opening pick in place to maintain access to the adhesive.
Reheat the adhesive for 1-2 minutes using an iOpener or heat gun if it becomes hard to cut.
When slicing near the front facing camera, insert only the tip of the opening pick.
Risk of damage or smearing the camera if not done carefully.
Insert another opening pick along the right edge.
Wait until the display cable is free before lifting the display.
Thread the display flex cable through the gap in the midframe.
Always use isopropyl alcohol (at least 90%) for cleaning, as it helps maintain adhesive integrity.
Apply new adhesive where necessary after ensuring all relevant areas are clean.
For pre-cut adhesive card reassembly, follow this guide's specified procedures carefully to avoid any issues.
