Samsung Phone Moisture Detected in Charging Port

Charging may be temporarily disabled if water or liquid enters the charger port.

  • Allow the device to sit for at least 30 minutes without charging.
  • After waiting, try reconnecting the charger and checking for a charging notification.

Step 1 | Liquid on USB Cable or Accessory

Liquid on the USB connector may trigger this warning.

  • Remove the USB cable and inspect for moisture.
  • If wet, wipe dry using clothing (e.g. shirt hem).

Allow your phone to dry, at least 15 minutes.

Alternatively, use a wireless charger to charge your phone.

Step 2 | Liquid in the Charge Port

Do not rush to dry a wet phone — patience is key.

  • Turn off the phone and let it air dry if possible.
  • Place the phone in a warm area with good airflow to speed up evaporation.

Avoid using compressed air or inserting objects into the port — this can push liquid further in or damage the pins.

Using isopropyl alcohol may accelerate evaporation, but it also carries a risk of affecting waterproofing or display quality. Use with caution and at your own risk.

Step 3 | Debris in the Charge Port

Disabling charging via USB may be triggered by non-liquid causes affecting circuitry.

  • Inspect the charge port with a flashlight for better visibility.
  • Check the fit of your cable - does the USB-C plug sit flush with the bottom of the phone?

Clear debris from the port to avoid false liquid detection:

  • If debris is present, use a toothpick or nonconductive probe to clear it.
  • Split or shave down the toothpick if necessary to fit into the port.
  • Insert the point straight in and gently scrape out residual debris, being mindful of the pins.

Step 4 | Buggy Software

The alert may persist due to an OS bug or hardware issue.

  • Clear system cache: Open Settings, go to Apps in the menu, toggle Show System Apps, and select USB Settings.
  • Press Clear System Cache in the lower right corner.
  • Check for and apply pending software updates to rule out a patched bug or modified firmware.
  • Perform a full reset: Use search within settings to find the Reset menu, but this is a drastic measure likely indicating hardware issues.

Step 5 | Faulty Charge Port

Liquid entry or damage around the charge port may indicate a faulty port or internal assembly.

  • Inspect the port for bent pins and signs of liquid entry or damage.
  • Check for calcification, rusting, or blueish-green fuzz on the port.
  • Verify the charge port's integrity using a USB ammeter to ensure current can be drawn through it.

Replacing the charge port may require a new daughterboard, which must match the original to maintain proper networking and cell service functionality.

  • If soldering skills are required, consider seeking assistance from a professional or replacing the whole motherboard as a last resort.
