Samsung Stratosphere Display Replacement

Replace or repair your phone's touchscreen display by following these steps.

Step 1 | Battery

Insert finger into the groove at the top of the phone and gently pry the rear casing.

  • Pull back on the rear casing until it separates from the device.
  • The rear casing will make a cracking sound as it is removed.

Use your fingers to pry from the battery's bottom.

  • Lift up to release and then fully lift away.

Step 3 | Motherboard

  • Identify the red and white SIM card situated above the battery housing.
  • Slide the SIM card downwards out of its slot using your fingers.

Use a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the seven silver 3mm screws.

  • If any screws become lodged, use tweezers to carefully extract them.

Praying too deeply can damage sensitive parts.

  • Use a plastic opening tool to loosen the rear panel.
  • Once loose, carefully remove the rear panel from the phone with your fingers.

Step 6

Remove the four black 3mm screws using a Phillips #000 screwdriver.

Locate the flex cable attachment marked with a green arrow.

  • Pry the cable attachment from the side indicated by the arrow using your fingers.
  • The cable will audibly snap as it is removed.
  • Allow the cable to hang loosely on one side of the phone.

Locate the mother board and gently pull it up from the side opposite the loose flex cable.

Use a plastic opening tool if the mother board is stuck to the key pad underneath.

  • Lift the mother board upwards to remove it from the device.

Step 9 | Front Camera

Insert a plastic opening tool into the phone case.

  • Pry the keyboard away from the casing using the tool.
  • The keyboard should separate easily, requiring little to no force.

Step 10

Use the Phillips #000 Screwdriver to remove the 7 silver 2mm screws.

  • The screws attach the silver metal plate to the rear panel.
  • Be careful not to strip the screw heads.

Step 11

Be prepared for the possibility of applying significant pressure.

Use a plastic opening tool to carefully loosen the golden metal plate.

The golden metal plate is attached to the rear panel with strong adhesive, so moderate force may be required to release it.

Step 12

Slide the gold plate under the keyboard casing.

  • Lift the gold plate using your fingers and slide it into position.
  • The plate should fit through the wide slot in the keyboard casing.

Step 13

Push the silver metal plate down and away from the flex cable and gold metal plate.

The metal plate may resist movement due to attached springs.

Step 14

Remove the rear panel using a Phillips #000 Screwdriver.

  • Unscrew the 4 black 3mm screws.

Use caution when applying force to avoid damaging components.

  • Insert the plastic opening tool into the groove at the top of the rear panel.
  • Firmly slide the tool all around the rear panel until it audibly snaps apart.
  • A significant amount of force may be required to separate the two pieces fully.

Step 16

Release the flex cable to access the metal plate attachment.

  • Position the flex cable out of the way for clearance.
  • Pull the part with the metal plate towards you, away from the rear panel.

  • Use a pair of tweezers to release the front-facing camera from its housing.
  • Pull the black rectangular piece, connected to the front facing camera, away from the rear panel.

Step 18 | Flex Cable

Peel the blue tape carefully from the bottom of the flex cable and set it aside.

Use a plastic opening tool to loosen the flex cable from its central housing.

  • Pull lightly on the flex cable to free it from the housing.
  • The cable may audibly snap as it is freed.

Step 20

Careful not to damage the flex cable or speaker.

  • Use tweezers to loosen the flex cable and speaker from the bottom of the phone.
  • Pull upward with the tweezers; the flex cable will come loose.
  • The front-facing camera is attached to the flex cable; for removal, refer to our guide on removing the front-facing camera.

Step 21 | Display

Be careful not to damage the gold display cable.

  • Find and release the clamp holding the gold display cable in place.
  • Pry the cable attachment upright using a plastic opener tool.
  • The clamp will snap free as you pry it up.
  • The result should match the marked design section.

Step 22

Do not bend the display cable, as it can be damaged easily.

  • Using the tweezers, gently pull the gold display cable away from its attachment.

A lot of adhesive holds the screen to the frame, so be careful.

  • Use a plastic opening tool to pry around the screen and loosen it from the frame.
  • Repeat this process as needed.
  • Gently push forward from the back of the display to remove the screen.
