Nexus S SIM Card Board Replacement

This guide shows how to install a new SIM Card board.

Step 1 | Rear Panel

Insert a plastic opening tool between the rear panel and inner rear frame near the rear-facing camera.

  • Pry up the rear case using the plastic opening tool, working around the perimeter of the device.

Remove the rear panel of the Nexus S.

Step 3 | Battery

Use the plastic opening tool to gently pry up the battery from its housing near the headphone jack.

Do not touch the metal edges of the battery.

  • Once lifted, carefully remove the battery from the device.

Step 4 | SIM Card

  • Slide the SIM card down from its slot with your thumb.
  • Remove the SIM card.

Step 5 | Rear Inner Frame

Disconnect the rear inner frame from the inner case by removing the six Phillips screws.

  • Insert the flat edge of a plastic opening tool between the rear inner frame and the top left corner.
  • Pry upwards with the opening tool to release the top right corner from its clips.

Insert the plastic opening tool to the right of the power button.

  • Slide the plastic opening tool downwards along the perimeter of the Nexus S.
  • This will release the clips on the right side.

Release the bottom clips located near the bottom of the Nexus S.

  • Plastic Opening Tool, insert it between the rear inner frame and inner assembly.
  • Pry gently to release the final clip holding them in place.

Step 10

Lift out the rear inner frame.

  • From the Nexus S, locate and release the retaining clips.
  • Carefully lift upwards on the rear inner frame to remove it.

Step 11 | SIM Card Board

Remove the SIM Board connector from its socket using the flat edge of a plastic opening tool.

Locate the SIM Card board on the device.

  • Plastic opening tool: Insert the edge under the SIM Card board, near the right bottom edge.
  • Pry up the clips located near this area to disengage them from the motherboard.
  • Continue the process along the entire bottom perimeter of the SIM Card board until all clips are disengaged.

Lift the SIM Card board out of the Nexus S.

The SIM card board is still in place.
