Samsung Galaxy S9 Rear Glass Removal

Opening the Samsung Galaxy S9 will damage its waterproof sealing.

  • Use this guide to remove the rear glass of the Samsung Galaxy S9.
  • You'll need replacement adhesive for reassembly, as you won't have the original seals anymore.

Step 1 | Rear Glass Removal

Step 1 image

Switch off your phone before starting.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to a long edge, loosening adhesive for at least two minutes.
  • You may need to reheat and reapply multiple times during removal.
  • Follow iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.

The Samsung Galaxy S9's adhesive is very strong; be cautious not to overheat phone.

  • If necessary, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but do so carefully.
  • Be aware of potential damage to the AMOLED display and internal battery from excessive heat.

If the rear glass is cracked, the suction cup may not stick. Try using strong tape or superglue for adhesion.

  • Press a suction cup onto the back cover.
  • Lift the bottom edge with your suction cup, creating a slight gap between the back cover and frame.
  • Apply heat if necessary, and reattempt lifting. Be cautious as the adhesive cools rapidly.

To prevent resealing during removal, insert an additional opening pick to hold the gap open.

  • Insert a second opening pick at the bottom right corner and slide it down.
  • Insert another opening pick at the bottom left corner for additional stability.

Insert the opening pick from the bottom right into the side groove and slide it upwards.

If the adhesive hardens, reapply heat as needed during removal.

  • Continue to apply gentle pressure with the pick, navigating around the corner to the top of the phone.
  • Use the pick to cut through any remaining adhesive at the top.

Do not fully separate the back cover yet, as the fingerprint sensor cable remains attached.
