Samsung Galaxy S9 Rear Camera Bezel With Fingerprint Sensor Replacement

Opening the Samsung Galaxy S9 compromises the waterproof sealing and may require replacement of the adhesive seals to maintain water protection.

  • Use this guide to remove the rear camera bezel with integrated fingerprint sensor from the Samsung Galaxy S9.
  • Note: Replacement adhesive is required for reassembly to ensure proper sealing.

Step 1 | Rear Glass Removal

Step 1 image

Switch off your phone before proceeding.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to a long edge of the phone for at least two minutes to loosen the adhesive beneath the rear glass.
  • You may need to reheat and reapply multiple times during removal.
  • Follow the iOpener instructions to avoid overheating, as the AMOLED display and internal battery are susceptible to heat damage.

Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate if needed; be cautious not to overheat the phone.

Step 2

  • Cut through the thick portions of adhesive as shown in the image.
  • Slice through the thin areas of adhesive carefully, following the marked sections.

If rear glass is cracked, strong tape or superglue may be needed for suction cup adhesion.

  • Press a suction cup onto the back cover and lift its bottom edge, opening a small gap between the cover and frame.
  • Apply heat if necessary to soften adhesive, repeating as it cools quickly.

Insert an opening pick into the created gap and slide it to the bottom right corner.

  • Repeat for the bottom left corner with a second opening pick.
  • Insert a third opening pick at the top edge to prevent resealing during removal.

Insert the opening pick from the bottom right into the side, moving towards the top.

Apply additional heat if the adhesive becomes difficult to cut, as it may break if not fully softened.

  • Continue along the edge and around the corner, cutting the remaining adhesive at the top of the phone.
  • Stop before completely opening the phone; the fingerprint sensor cable remains connected to the motherboard.
