Samsung Galaxy S9 Headphone Jack Replacement

  • Use this guide to remove the headphone jack from a Samsung Galaxy S9.
  • You will need replacement adhesive for the fingerprint sensor when reassembling the device.

Step 1 | Rear Glass Removal

Step 1 image

Switch off your phone before starting.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to a long edge of the phone for at least two minutes to loosen the adhesive.
  • You may need to reapply and reheat the iOpener several times during removal.

Be careful not to overheat, as this can damage the AMOLED display or internal battery.

  • If necessary, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate following the manufacturer's instructions.

Step 2

Step 2 image

Do not pry or slice near the fingerprint sensor flex cable — risk of damage.

  • Identify thick and thin portions of adhesive as shown in the image.
  • Slice through adhesive in these areas using a suitable tool.

If the rear glass is cracked, strong tape or superglued suction cup may be needed for better adhesion.

  • Press a suction cup onto the back cover and lift its bottom edge to create a slight gap between the cover and frame.
  • This may require significant force, but only a small gap is needed. If struggling, apply more heat to soften the adhesive and try again.
  • Reapply heat as necessary, as the adhesive cools quickly.
  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap and slide it to the bottom right corner.
  • Follow with a second opening pick in the bottom left corner.
  • Place a third opening pick at the top to prevent resealing of the adhesive during removal.

Insert only the tip of the opening pick at the bottom left corner.

  • Slide the pick along the side to the top.
  • Round the top corner with the pick and leave it in place.
  • This will prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Slide the opening pick from the bottom right corner along the side to the top.

Apply more heat if the adhesive becomes hard to cut — risk of damaging the back cover.

  • Continue sliding the opening pick around the corner and cutting the remaining adhesive at the top of the phone.

Do not open the phone all the way yet, as the fragile fingerprint sensor cable still connects the back cover to the motherboard.
