Samsung Galaxy S9 Earpiece Speaker Replacement

Replacing the earpiece speaker compromises your device's water resistance.

  • Check if the issue is software-related by consulting our troubleshooting page.
  • Locate and replace the earpiece speaker if the problem persists in the hardware.
  • If you break the waterproof seal, consider replacing it to maintain your device's water resistance.

Step 1 | Rear Glass Removal

Step 1 image

Switch off your phone before proceeding.

  • iOpener: Apply to a long edge of the phone for at least two minutes to loosen adhesive beneath rear glass.
  • May need to reheat and reapply several times; follow iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.

  • Adhesive may require additional heat: use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate if necessary.

Be cautious not to overheat the phone; AMOLED display and internal battery are susceptible to heat damage.

Step 2

Avoid damaging the fingerprint sensor flex cable.

  • Locate and slice through the thick adhesive portions.
  • Remove the thin adhesive areas.

Do not pry or slice in the area covering the fingerprint sensor flex cable.

Apply strong tape or superglue to ensure suction cup adhesion if rear glass is cracked.

  • Press a suction cup onto the back cover and lift its bottom edge, creating a small gap between the cover and frame.
  • Be prepared for significant force, but only open a slight gap – insert your tool to proceed. If necessary, apply heat and repeat.

The adhesive cools quickly, so repeated heating may be required.

  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap and slide it to the bottom right corner.
  • Insert a second opening pick and slide it to the bottom left corner.
  • Place a third opening pick at the remaining edge to prevent resealing during removal.

Insert the opening pick tip into the device's edge at the bottom left corner.

  • Slide the pick along the side towards the top.
  • Rotate the pick around the top corner to prevent resealing of adhesive.

Insert an opening pick from the bottom right corner, sliding it along the side to the top.

Apply more heat if the adhesive becomes difficult to cut; failing to do so may cause the back cover to break under tension.

  • Slide the opening pick around the corner and carefully cut the remaining adhesive at the top of the phone.
  • Do not fully open the phone yet, as the fragile fingerprint sensor cable still connects it to the motherboard.

Step 6
