Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus Rear Glass Removal

Opening the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus will damage the waterproof sealing on the device, rendering it no longer water-resistant if not properly sealed.

  • Follow this guide to remove the rear glass of the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus.

If you don't replace the adhesive seals during reassembly, your phone will function normally but lose its waterproof capabilities.

You'll need replacement adhesive for reattaching components when reassembling the device.

Step 1 | Rear Glass Removal

Step 1 image

Switch off your phone.

  • Apply an iOpener for at least two minutes to loosen the adhesive beneath the rear glass.
  • If necessary, repeat this step several times during back cover removal.
  • Alternatively, use a heat source like a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate to aid in adhesive release. However, be cautious not to overheat the phone:

The AMOLED display and internal battery are susceptible to heat damage.

Proceed with caution when using a heat source.

Prying or slicing in this area may damage the fingerprint sensor flex cable.

  • Identify thick and thin areas of adhesive on the back cover as per the image.
  • Slice through the adhesive in these marked areas, being careful to avoid damaged components.

If the rear glass is cracked, strong tape or superglue may be needed to secure a suction cup.

  • Press a suction cup onto the back cover.
  • Lift the bottom edge of the back cover with your suction cup, creating a slight gap between the cover and frame. This may require significant force.
  • If stuck, reheat the adhesive to soften it further and try again.

Insert an opening pick into the gap and slide it to the bottom right corner.

  • Insert a second opening pick and guide it to the bottom left corner.
  • This third opening pick will stay at the bottom end of the phone throughout the process, preventing adhesive reseal.

Step 5

  • Begin sliding an opening pick along the S9 Plus's bottom left edge, starting from the corner.
  • Pause and secure the opening pick when you've cut through the adhesive about halfway up the phone's left side.
  • Next, slide the opening pick from the bottom right corner to the middle of the frame, then leave it in place.

Insert a fourth opening pick at the right side of the frame and slide it to the top right corner.

  • Slide a fifth opening pick along the left side of the phone to the top left corner.

Do not open the phone all the way yet — the flex cable for the fingerprint reader is still connected to the motherboard.

Use the opening pick to cut the remaining adhesive under the upper part of the rear glass.
