Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus NFC Antenna and Charging Coil Replacement

Opening the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus will damage the waterproof seals. The phone's water protection can be restored if you replace the damaged seals with new adhesive.

  • Use this guide to remove the NFC antenna and the charging coil.

This process requires replacement adhesive for reassembly.

Step 1 | Rear Glass Removal

Step 1 image

Careful: overheating can damage the AMOLED display or internal battery.

  • Switch off your phone.
  • Apply an iOpener to loosen the rear glass adhesive for at least two minutes, repeating as needed.
  • If the iOpener is insufficient, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate with caution.

Step 2

Be cautious when cutting through the adhesive — risk of damaging the fingerprint sensor flex cable.

  • Identify the adhesive patterns as seen in the provided image.
  • Focus on slicing through the thick and thin areas of adhesive indicated.
  • Avoid cutting or prying near the fingerprint sensor flex cable to prevent damage.

Cracked rear glass may prevent suction cup adhesion.

  • Apply strong tape or superglue to assist suction cup adhesion.

Press a suction cup onto the back cover.

  • Lift the bottom edge with your suction cup, creating a slight gap between the back cover and frame.
  • If necessary, apply more heat to soften adhesive and try again.
  • The adhesive cools quickly; repeated heating may be required.

Insert an opening pick in the gap and slide it to the bottom right corner.

Insert a second opening pick into the gap.

  • Slide it towards the bottom left corner.

Insert the tip of the opening pick at the bottom left corner of the S9 Plus.

  • Slowly slide the opening pick along the side until you reach the middle, cutting adhesive as you go.
  • Leave the opening pick in place.
  • Repeat on the bottom right corner, sliding the opening pick up the frame and leaving it in position.

  • Slide a fifth opening pick along the left side of the phone to the top left corner.
  • Use the opening pick to cut the remaining adhesive under the upper part of the rear glass.

Do not open the phone all the way yet, as the flex cable for the fingerprint reader is still connected to the motherboard.
