Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus Battery Replacement

Opening the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus will compromise its waterproof seals.

  • Discharge the battery below 25% before disassembling.
  • If your battery is swollen, do not heat your phone — exercise extreme caution or seek professional assistance.
  • Plan to replace adhesive seals when reassembling for water protection to be maintained.

Step 1 | Rear Glass Removal

Step 1 image

Switch off your phone.

  • iOpener: Apply for at least two minutes to loosen rear glass adhesive.
  • If necessary, repeat step 1 several times during back cover removal.
  • Alternatively, use a heat source (hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate) with caution: be careful not to overheat phone.
  • Heat damage risk for AMOLED display and internal battery.

Step 2

Apply strong tape or superglue to the suction cup if rear glass is cracked.

  • Suction Cup: Press onto back cover.
  • Lift bottom edge with suction cup, creating a small gap between back cover and frame.
  • Apply more heat if necessary; repeat as adhesive cools quickly.

Use only slight force to open the gap, as excessive force can damage components.

  • Insert an opening pick into the gap at bottom right corner and slide it towards the edge.

Soft-shell lithium-ion batteries can leak dangerous chemicals, catch fire, or explode if damaged.

  • Apply 1-2 drops of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol under each battery corner to weaken adhesive (allow penetration time).

Do not use excessive force or pry at the battery with metal tools.

  • Insert the flat end of a spudger into the top left corner, near the flex cable.
  • Pry up using firm, constant pressure and work down the left side to loosen adhesive.

Step 15
