Charging via saltwater-contaminated USB-C connectors may cause permanent damage.

  • Insert charger into phone to trigger water presence check.
  • If warning/audio beep sounds, do not charge via the connector.

Before charging, clean and dry the affected connector thoroughly.

Step 2

Use caution when cleaning connectors to avoid contaminating the phone.

  • Use compressed air or a straw to gently blow out liquid and debris from the connector.
  • Clean the connector with clean water and paper towel strips, removing excess moisture with each strip.

Allow the connector to dry for at least 6 hours before charging. Using the phone during this time is safe as long as it's not charged.

  • If urgent charging is needed, use wireless charging (S9+).
  • Regularly clean the charge cable connector with gentle methods to prevent contamination by salt or rust.

If fabric fibers are present in the connector, remove them with a needle while using magnification, scraping from the bottom of the connector.
