Samsung Galaxy S8 Vibrator Motor Replacement

Discharging the battery below 25% reduces risk of explosion in case of accidental puncture.

  • Remove rear glass cover using replacement adhesive for reassembly.
  • Follow this guide to remove vibrator motor from Samsung Galaxy S8.

Step 1 | iOpener Heating

Step 1 image

Any debris on the microwave floor may adhere to the iOpener.

Clean the microwave thoroughly before proceeding.

  • Position the iOpener in the center of the microwave.
  • For carousel microwaves, ensure the plate rotates freely to prevent overheating and damage to the iOpener.

Step 2

Step 2 image

Be cautious not to overheat the iOpener during repair — overheating may cause damage.

  • Heat the iOpener in a microwave for 30 seconds, or until it's just too hot to touch.

  • Monitor and reheat as needed during repair; do not exceed 100°C (212°F).

  • If the iOpener appears swollen, do not handle it — inspect for swelling throughout the procedure.

  • Continue using a heated iOpener that's still too hot to touch; wait until it cools down before reheating again.

Step 3

Step 3 image

Be extremely cautious when handling a heated iOpener.

  • Remove the iOpener from the microwave and hold by one of its flat ends to avoid direct contact with the hot center.
  • Use an oven mitt if necessary for added protection when handling the heated tool.

Step 4 | Alternate iOpener heating method

Step 4 image

If no microwave is available, heating the iOpener requires caution.

  • Fill a pot or pan with enough water to fully submerge an iOpener.
  • Heat the water to a boil and then turn off the heat.
  • Submerge an iOpener for 2-3 minutes, ensuring it's completely covered.
  • Use tongs to carefully remove the heated iOpener from the water.
  • Dry the iOpener thoroughly with a towel before use.

When handling the hot iOpener, be careful not to touch any part except for the end tabs.

Reheating instructions: Boil water, turn off heat, and submerge iOpener for 2-3 minutes.

Step 5 | Back Glass Assembly

Step 5 image

Opening your phone will compromise its waterproof seals.

  • Prepare replacement adhesive before proceeding or ensure liquid exposure is avoided during reassembly.
  • Heat an iOpener and apply it to a long edge of the S8 for about 2 minutes.
  • Reheat and reapply as necessary, following iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but exercise caution to prevent overheat damage to OLED display or internal battery.

Carefully plan your prying approach while waiting for the adhesive to soften.

Step 6

Step 6 image

Be cautious not to damage the rear case's adhesive layout.

  • Identify the thick and thin areas of adhesive on the rear case as shown in the first image.
  • Pry around the edge of the rear glass panel, avoiding thin areas near the fingerprint sensor.

Step 7

Position a suction cup near the heated edge, but avoid the curved part.

A cracked back cover can prevent the suction cup from sticking – use strong tape or superglue if necessary.

  • Lift the phone using the suction cup.
  • Insert an opening pick under the rear glass, pushing up due to its curved shape.

Step 8

Step 8 image

Reheat and reapply the iOpener to soften the adhesive.

  • Hold the tool firmly in place within the glass.

Step 9

Step 9 image

Slowly slide the opening pick down the side of the phone to separate the adhesive.

  • Go slowly to prevent the tool from slipping out of place.
  • If cutting becomes difficult, reheat and reapply the iOpener.

Step 10

Step 10 image

Continue the heating and cutting process for the remaining sides.

  • Apply a new opening pick to each side before moving to the next.
  • This will help maintain access by preventing the adhesive from resealing.

Step 11

Step 11 image

Do not open the phone any further if the fingerprint sensor cable is snagged or taut.

  • Disconnect the orange cable with a blue connector as you lift the rear glass.
  • Use opening picks to slice through remaining adhesive and open the phone slightly, but only if the cable has disconnected.

Carefully disconnect the connector with a spudger's point if necessary.

  • During reassembly, align the back cover so the cable connector lines up perfectly over its socket.
  • Use the flat end of your spudger to snap the connector into place by pressing straight down.

Remove the rear glass from the phone.

Step 12

Step 12 image

Use tweezers to remove remaining adhesive from phone chassis.

  • Clean adhesion areas with high concentration isopropyl alcohol (at least 90%) and a lint-free cloth.
  • Peel adhesive backing off new rear glass, align one edge against the phone chassis, and firmly press the glass onto the phone.

Before installing new adhesive, turn on your phone and test your repair to ensure proper function.

  • If desired, remove large chunks of old adhesive that may interfere with installation.
  • Apply heat and pressure to secure the back cover; note: it will not be waterproof but the glue should hold securely.
