Samsung Galaxy S8 Screen Replacement

This guide replaces a cracked or broken Samsung Galaxy S8 display only, leaving original frame and electronics intact. Verify correct replacement screen part before proceeding, including adhesive for rear glass cover reattachment.

  • Remove the rear glass cover using care to preserve surrounding components.
  • Proceed with caution: separating display from frame typically destroys the display and requires a new screen.
  • Ensure replacement screen includes adhesive; if not, secure it with tape for proper mounting.

Damaged or bent frame may require replacement to prevent uneven pressure damage on new screen.

Step 1 | iOpener Heating

Any residue on the microwave bottom may adhere to the iOpener.

  • Clean the microwave thoroughly before proceeding.
  • Position the iOpener in the center of the microwave.
  • For carousel microwaves, ensure the turntable spins freely to prevent overheating.

Step 2

Step 2 image

Avoid overheating the iOpener, as this may cause it to burst.

  • Heat the iOpener in the microwave for thirty seconds, or less if your device's wattage is high.
  • The iOpener is ready when it's just too hot to touch.

Do not heat the iOpener above 100 ̊C (212 ̊F).

  • Throughout the repair, reheat the iOpener in thirty-second increments as it cools down.
  • If the iOpener appears swollen or is too hot to touch, do not handle it.
  • A properly heated iOpener should stay warm for up to ten minutes.

Step 3

Step 3 image

Handling the iOpener can cause burns — use caution.

  • Remove from microwave using one of the flat ends to avoid touching hot center.
  • Handle with care and consider an oven mitt for added protection.

Step 4 | Alternate iOpener heating method

Step 4 image

Never handle an iOpener with wet hands or bare skin.

  • Fill a pot with enough boiling water to submerge an iOpener.
  • Place the iOpener in the hot water for 2-3 minutes, ensuring it is fully submerged.
  • Use tongs to carefully remove the heated iOpener from the water.
  • Dry the iOpener thoroughly with a towel before use.

Be cautious when handling a hot iOpener, holding it only by the end tabs.

Step 5 | Back Glass Assembly

Step 5 image

Opening your phone will compromise its waterproof seals; ensure replacement adhesive is prepared or take precautions against liquid exposure during reassembly.

  • Apply heat to a long edge of the S8 using an iOpener for about 2 minutes.
  • Reheat and reapply as necessary, following iOpener guidelines to avoid overheating.

When using alternative heat sources (hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate), be cautious not to overheat the phone, which may damage the OLED display or internal battery.

Step 6

Step 6 image

To avoid damaging your phone's fingerprint sensor, carefully follow this prying pattern.

  • Identify thick and thin areas of adhesive on the rear case as seen in the first image.
  • Pry along the edge of the rear glass panel, cutting through the adhesive in the following order:
    • Thick portions of adhesive first
    • Avoid prying over the fingerprint sensor area, located at the thin areas of adhesive

Step 7

Step 7 image

Position a suction cup near the heated edge of the phone's back panel.

  • Avoid applying the suction cup on the curved section of glass for a proper seal.
  • If the back cover is cracked, secure the suction cup with strong tape or superglue before proceeding.

Lifting the phone with a cracked back cover may compromise structural integrity.

Apply gentle force to lift on the suction cup and carefully insert an opening pick under the rear glass.

Be aware that you will need to push upwards due to the curved glass design, rather than inserting parallel to the phone's surface.

Step 8

Step 8 image

Reheat the iOpener and reapply it to the glass.

This may take several attempts to loosen the adhesive.

Step 9

Step 9 image

Slide the opening pick down the side of the phone, gently prying away the adhesive.

Go slowly to avoid losing control of the tool; if necessary, reheating and reapplying the iOpener can facilitate separation.

Step 10

  • Continue the heating and cutting process for the remaining three sides.
  • Leaving an opening pick in place on each side will help prevent the adhesive from resealing as you move on to the next side.

Step 11

Step 11 image

Be cautious not to damage the fingerprint sensor cable as it may snag during removal.

  • Disconnect the short fingerprint sensor cable as you lift the rear glass.
  • Verify that the orange cable with a blue connector has released from its socket.

If the cable remains taut, stop and carefully disconnect it using a spudger.

  • Use opening picks to remove adhesive and open the phone slightly.

Do not force the back cover open if the cable is snagged. Release the connector instead.

  • To reconnect, position the back cover so that the cable lines up perfectly with its socket.
  • Use a spudger to snap the connector into place by pressing it straight down.

The rear glass can now be removed from the phone.

Step 12

Step 12 image

Remove remaining adhesive from phone chassis using tweezers.

  • Clean adhesion areas with high concentration isopropyl alcohol (at least 90%) and lint-free cloth.
  • Peel backing off new rear glass and align edge of glass against phone chassis.
  • Firmly press glass onto phone, ensuring proper alignment.

Verify phone is functional before installing new adhesive.

  • Reinstall back cover without adhesive for temporary solution (resulting in non-waterproof device).
  • If applicable, transfer camera bezel to new part using our camera bezel replacement guide.

Step 13 | NFC Antenna and Charging Coil Assembly

Step 13 image

Remove the three hundred twenty-seven Phillips #000 screwdriver head screws from the device.

Step 14

Step 14 image

Disconnect the display and digitizer connector with the flat end of a spudger.

Step 17

Step 17 image

Apply iOpener to a long edge of the S8 for 2 minutes.

  • Reheat and reapply as needed until the phone is warm.
  • Follow iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.

Step 18

Step 18 image

A cracked screen may prevent a good seal with the suction cup.

  • Apply a suction cup near the heated edge, avoiding the curved section.
  • If the suction cup doesn't stick, use strong tape or superglue to secure it in place and let cure.

Lift on the suction cup and insert an opening pick at an angle due to the curved glass.

Step 19

Step 19 image

Reheat the iOpener and reapply it to the glass.

  • The heat will help soften the adhesive.

Step 20

Step 20 image

  • Lift the screen assembly carefully away from the midframe.
  • Gently pull the display connector through the hole.
  • Remove the screen assembly.

Step 24

Step 24 image

Remove old adhesive from the frame thoroughly, taking care to avoid glass fragments.

  • Use a lint-free cloth or coffee filter with 90% isopropyl alcohol to clean adhesion areas.
  • Sweep in one direction only, avoiding back-and-forth motion.

If the frame is bent or adhesive remnants remain, replace it for proper display mounting and to prevent damage.

  • Secure the new screen with custom-cut double-sided tape on the back of the display.
  • Feed the display cable through the frame while securing the screen in place.
