Samsung Galaxy S8 Rear Camera Bezel Replacement

If your replacement rear camera bezel doesn't have adhesive pre-applied, purchasing additional adhesive is necessary. This can be in the form of pre-cut adhesive or thin high-bond tape.

Step 1 | Back Glass Assembly

Step 1 image

Opening your phone will compromise its waterproof seals; have replacement adhesive ready or take care when reassembling.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to a long edge of the S8 for about 2 minutes.
  • You may need to reheat and reapply the iOpener several times to achieve sufficient heat.

When using alternative heat sources (hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate), be cautious not to overheat the phone and damage the OLED display and internal battery.

Step 2

Be careful when cutting around the rear glass panel's edge — risk of damaging surrounding components.

  • Study the rear case's adhesive layout as seen in the first image.
  • Cut through the thick adhesive sections, following the pattern visible from outside:
    • Thick areas
    • Thin areas
  • Avoid cutting near the fingerprint sensor.

Step 3

Apply a suction cup near the heated edge, but not on the curved part.

The suction cup won't seal properly there.

  • If the back cover is cracked, use strong tape or superglue to secure the suction cup and let it dry.
  • Lift the phone using the suction cup and insert an opening pick under the rear glass.

Due to the curved design, you'll be pushing upwards rather than inserting parallel to the phone's surface.

Step 4

Step 4 image

Reheat and reapply the iOpener to the device, allowing it to soften the adhesive.

  • Ensure the iOpener is in contact with the glass while it heats up.

Step 5

Slide the opening pick down the side of the phone, gradually separating the adhesive.

  • Move slowly to avoid losing the tool in the seam.
  • If the separation becomes difficult, reheat and reapply the iOpener.

Step 6

  • Continue with the heating and cutting process, repeating it for the remaining three sides.
  • On each side, leave an opening pick in place before moving to the next to prevent the adhesive from sealing over again.

Risk of damage if fingerprint sensor cable is snagged or stays taut.

  • Disconnect the short fingerprint sensor cable near the main camera as you remove the rear glass.
  • Verify that the orange cable with a blue connector has disconnected as you lift the glass.
  • Use opening picks to slice through remaining adhesive and open the phone slightly.
  • If the fingerprint sensor cable is snagged, use a spudger to carefully disconnect it before proceeding.

Be careful not to damage the connector when reconnecting the fingerprint sensor cable during reassembly.

  • Angle the back cover into position until the cable connector lines up perfectly over its socket.
  • Use a flat spudger to gently snap the connector into place by pressing it straight down.

Do not force the glass from the phone, as this can cause damage or shattering.

  1. Remove the rear glass from the phone once you have completed these steps.

Step 8

Step 8 image

Remove any remaining adhesive from the phone's chassis using tweezers.

  • Clean the adhesion areas with high concentration isopropyl alcohol (at least 90%) and a lint-free cloth.
  • Peel off the adhesive backing from the new rear glass.
  • Align one edge of the glass against the phone chassis, then press firmly onto the phone.

Turn on your phone and test the repair before applying new adhesive and resealing the phone.

  • If reinstalling the old back cover or using a non-adhesive back cover, follow the original guide.
  • For a non-adhesive installation, remove large chunks of adhesive to ensure proper fit.
  • Apply heat and pressure to secure the back cover in place, but note that it won't be waterproof.

You may need to transfer the camera bezel; follow our camera bezel replacement guide if necessary.

Step 9 | Rear Camera Bezel

Step 9 image

Avoid overheating when warming the device.

  • Prepare an iOpener and apply it to the rear camera bezel for at least two minutes.
  • Reapply heat as needed, following the iOpener instructions or use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate with caution.

Step 10

Avoid prying on the side adjacent to the fingerprint sensor for risk of damage.

  • Insert an opening pick under the top edge of the rear camera bezel.
  • Slide the opening pick around the edges of the bezel to loosen its adhesive from the rear glass.

Step 11

Step 11 image

Avoid catching the camera bezel on the fingerprint cable.

  • Lift the camera bezel away from the rear glass using an opening pick or tweezers.
  • If encountering resistance, use an opening pick to cut any remaining adhesive.

Step 12

Step 12 image

Use a spudger to scrape away any remaining adhesive where the camera bezel meets the rear glass.

  • Clean the area with high concentration isopropyl alcohol (90% or higher) and a lint-free cloth, swiping in one direction only.

Step 13

Peel off the clear backing from the camera bezel adhesive strip

  • Line up the rear camera and flash cutouts on the rear glass with those on the adhesive strip, taking care not to overlap.
  • Press the adhesive down firmly onto the rear glass using your fingers or a spudger.

If the part lacks pre-cut adhesive, use high-bond double-sided tape, such as Tesa 61395, to secure the camera bezel.

Step 14

Step 14 image

Remove the green backing carefully to avoid damaging the adhesive strip.

Ensure the adhesive remains on the glass during removal.

Step 15

Align the rear camera bezel with the cutouts on the rear glass.

Ensure the side with the camera lens cover protruding is facing the rear glass to avoid misalignment.

  • Seat the camera lens cover completely within the rear glass's camera cutout, ensuring a flush fit.
  • Apply even pressure to the bezel using your fingers for 30 seconds to secure the adhesive bond.

Just before installing the rear glass and sealing the phone, remove the black backing covering the camera glass.
