Samsung Galaxy S8 Headphone Jack Replacement

Discharging the battery below 25% before disassembly reduces the risk of a hazardous explosion or fire if it is accidentally punctured.

  • Follow this guide to replace the headphone jack in your Samsung Galaxy S8.
  • Removing the rear glass cover requires replacement adhesive for reattachment.

Step 1 | iOpener Heating

Step 1 image

Cleaning the microwave is crucial before proceeding — gunk on the bottom may stick to the iOpener.

  • Place the iOpener in the center of the microwave.
  • In carousel microwaves, ensure the plate spins freely — stuck iOpener may cause overheating and burning.

Step 2

Step 2 image

Do not exceed 100 ̊C (212 ̊F) when heating the iOpener in the microwave.

  • Heat the iOpener for thirty seconds; adjust time according to your microwave's wattage.
  • The iOpener is ready when it's only just too hot to touch.

Risk of bursting if overheated.

  • Reheat as needed in thirty-second increments during the repair.

Do not attempt to handle if swollen or excessively hot, even after reheating.

Note: A properly heated iOpener should stay warm for up to ten minutes.

Step 3

Step 3 image

Handle the extremely hot iOpener with care and use an oven mitt as needed.

  • Remove the iOpener from the microwave using one of its flat ends to avoid the heated center.
  • Hold the iOpener by one of the two flat ends only.

Step 4 | Alternate iOpener heating method

Step 4 image

Fill a pot or pan with enough boiling water to fully submerge an iOpener.

  • Heat the water to a boil, then turn off the heat.
  • Submerge an iOpener in the hot water for 2-3 minutes.
  • Use tongs to extract the heated iOpener.
  • Dry the iOpener thoroughly with a towel.

Be careful when handling the hot iOpener, holding it only by the end tabs.

Your iOpener is ready for use. To reheat, repeat the process as described above.

Step 5 | Back Glass Assembly

Step 5 image

Opening your phone will compromise its waterproof seals.

  • Have replacement adhesive ready before proceeding or take care to avoid liquid exposure upon reassembly.
  • iOpener: heat for 2 minutes on a long edge of the S8, reapplying as needed (follow instructions to avoid overheating).
  • Alternative heating methods: hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but be cautious not to overheat the phone (OLED display and internal battery are susceptible to heat damage).

Step 6

Step 6 image

Locate the adhesive around the edge of the rear glass panel.

  • Rear case adhesive pattern: Thick & thin strips as shown in the first image.
  • Avoid prying where the adhesive meets the fingerprint sensor to prevent damage.

Step 7

Apply a suction cup near the heated edge of the phone's back panel.

Avoid the curved edge, as the suction cup won't make a good seal.

  • If the back cover is cracked, try lifting with strong tape or superglue the suction cup in place.

Lift on the suction cup and insert an opening pick under the rear glass.

Be prepared to push up due to the curved glass design.

Step 8

Step 8 image

Reheat and reapply the iOpener to soften the adhesive.

Be careful not to apply too much heat or pressure to avoid damaging the device.

Step 9

Insert an opening pick along the side of the phone, carefully prying up the adhesive.

  • Work slowly to maintain control over the tool.
  • If separation becomes difficult, reheat and reapply the iOpener.

Step 10

Continue heating and cutting around the remaining three sides of the phone.

  • Leave a opening pick on each side as you move to the next, preventing the adhesive from resealing.

Step 11

Disconnect the fingerprint sensor cable as you lift the rear glass near the main camera.

  • Verify the orange cable with a blue connector has disconnected by peeking inside.
  • Use opening picks to slice through remaining adhesive and open the phone slightly.

Do not proceed if the fingerprint sensor cable is snagged or stays taut — risk of damage.

  • Use a spudger to disconnect the snagged connector before proceeding.

During reassembly, align the back cover and snap the connector into place by pressing straight down with a flat-ended spudger.

Remove the glass from the phone carefully to avoid damaging the fingerprint sensor cable.

Step 12

Step 12 image

Remove remaining adhesive from phone chassis using tweezers.

  • Clean adhesion areas with isopropyl alcohol (at least 90%) and a lint-free cloth.
  • Peel backing off new rear glass, align one edge to phone chassis, and press firmly onto phone.

Ensure your repair is complete before applying new adhesive.

  • If reinstalling old back cover, follow the guide for that procedure.
  • Alternatively, remove large chunks of remaining adhesive to ensure proper fit.

Note: Phone will not be waterproof if adhesive is reinstalled without replacing the original adhesive.

  • Apply heat and pressure to secure back cover in place.
  • If necessary, transfer camera bezel according to our replacement guide.
