Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus Rear Camera Bezel Replacement

Make sure your replacement rear camera bezel has adhesive pre-applied, otherwise additional adhesive, such as pre-cut adhesive or thin high-bond tape, will be required.

Step 1 | Back Glass

Step 1 image

Opening your phone will compromise its waterproof seals; have replacement adhesive ready or take care when reassembling without it.

  • Prepare an iOpener and heat the back along the left edge for about two minutes to soften the adhesive.
  • You may need to reheat and reapply the iOpener several times; follow its instructions to avoid overheating.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but be cautious not to overheat the phone, which can damage the OLED display and internal battery.

Step 2

Avoid damaging the fingerprint sensor flex cable.

  • Identify thick and thin sections of adhesive on the back cover.
  • Slice through adhesive as shown from outside the phone:
    • Thick portions
    • Thin areas
  • Avoid cutting near the fingerprint sensor flex cable location.

Step 3

Step 3 image

Be cautious when handling heat sources.

  • Secure a suction cup near the heated edge but not on the curved portion of the glass.
  • If the back cover is cracked, use strong tape or superglue to ensure the suction cup sticks.
  • Lift the left edge of the back cover with the suction cup, creating a small gap between it and the frame.

Significant force may be required; apply gentle heat if necessary, allowing the adhesive to cool before retrying.

Avoid overheating an iOpener or its gel pack will burst.

Step 4

Rear glass may shatter if excessive force or metal tools are used.

  • Insert an opening pick into the gap, applying minimal pressure.
  • (Optional) Add a few drops of isopropyl alcohol to the gap for easier adhesive separation.

Step 5

Slide your opening pick along the left edge of the phone to slice through the adhesive securing the back cover.

  • Leave the pick in place and grab a second one for the next step, if needed.
  • This will help prevent the glue from re-adhering.

Step 6

Continue slicing along the bottom edge of the phone with a picking tool.

  • Re-heat the back cover as needed to prevent glue hardening.
  • Insert the pick deeper into the phone to separate the larger glued area.
  • Note: Leave the opening pick in place and grab another for the next step.

Risk of damaging the fingerprint sensor's flex cable: Insert tool carefully.

  • Slice through the remaining adhesive along the top edge with a tool.
  • Be cautious when approaching the right side to avoid damaging the flex cable.

Step 8

Do not attempt to fully remove the back cover.

  • Lift the back cover from its left edge.
  • Hinge it open slightly, without removing it completely.

Step 9

Use the spudger to carefully pry up and release the fingerprint sensor flex cable.

Step 10

Position the back cover so that the fingerprint sensor cable's connector aligns perfectly over its socket.

  • Use the flat end of your spudger to gently snap the connector into place by pressing straight down.
  • Alternatively, individuals with slender hands may be able to press the connector into place using their finger.
  • Do not force the connector or rush the process, as this can damage the cable.

Step 11

Step 11 image

Before proceeding, ensure you've tested your repair by turning on your phone.

  • Remove any remaining adhesive from the phone's chassis using tweezers.
  • Clean the adhesion areas with high concentration isopropyl alcohol (at least 90%) and a lint-free cloth.

Peel the adhesive backing off the new rear glass, carefully align one edge, and press firmly into place.

  • Remove large chunks of old adhesive to ensure proper fit before reinstallation.
  • If necessary, heat the back cover and apply pressure for added security.

Note: Without new adhesive, the phone will not be waterproof but should remain secure.

If your new part requires a camera bezel transfer, follow our dedicated replacement guide.

Step 12 | Rear Camera Bezel

Step 12 image

Be cautious when using external heat sources to prevent overheating and damage.

  • Apply the iOpener to the rear camera bezel for at least two minutes to loosen adhesives.
  • If necessary, reheat and reapply the iOpener multiple times until the phone is warm enough.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but avoid overheating that may melt plastic components.

Step 13

Step 13 image

Do not pry on the side that sits against the fingerprint sensor.

  • Insert an opening pick under the top edge of the rear camera bezel.
  • Slide the opening pick around the edges to separate the adhesive.

Step 14

Use a opening pick to pry the camera bezel away from the rear glass.

  • Avoid catching the camera bezel on the fingerprint cable.
  • If you encounter resistance, use an opening pick to cut any remaining adhesive.
  • Remove the camera bezel.

Step 15

Use tweezers to gently peel away the remaining adhesive from the rear camera bezel.

  • With a spudger, carefully scrape away any remaining adhesive where the bezel meets the rear glass.
  • Clean the area with high concentration isopropyl alcohol (at least 90%) and a lint-free cloth, swiping in one direction only to prevent damage.

Step 16

Step 16 image

Secure the camera bezel using high-bond double-sided tape, such as Tesa 61395, if no adhesive is provided.

  • Cut pieces of tape to fit along the edges of the bezel.
  • Use a narrower size tape than needed, when in doubt.

Avoid overlapping tape onto plastic or glass areas.

  • Apply tape with tweezers to the metal surface of the bezel, where the camera lens cover protrudes.
  • Cover most of the metal surface with tape.

Step 17

Step 17 image

Use tweezers to gently remove the protective film from the rear camera bezel.

Be careful not to touch the underlying surface with the tweezers to avoid damage.

Step 18

Step 18 image

Align the rear camera bezel with cutouts on the rear glass, adhesive side facing inwards.

  • Set the bezel down, ensuring the camera lens cover fits into its respective cutout.
  • Verify the cover is fully seated for a flat fit against the rear glass.
  • Avoid damage to the adhesive; apply even pressure with your fingers for 30 seconds.
  • Prior to installing the rear glass, remove the blue backing covering the camera glass.
