Samsung Galaxy S8 Active Rear-Facing Camera Replacement

To replace or remove the rear-facing camera, follow this guide. Note that you'll need to reapply adhesive to secure the back cover after removal.

  • Ensure the battery is charged below 25% before proceeding.
  • Batteries may catch fire/explosion if punctured/damaged; low charge (below 25%) reduces this risk.

Step 1 | SIM Tray/Card

  • Take off the rubber bumpers from the top and bottom edges of the device.

Step 3

Apply gentle heat to the back edges using a heat gun, iFixit iOpener, hair dryer, or hot plate.

  • Heat for approximately one minute, or until adhesive is softened.
  • Be cautious not to overheat the device as this can damage the OLED display, battery and other internal components.
  • The metal frame will become hot to the touch; handle with care.

Insert a Jimmy tool under the edge of the back cover.

A suction handle will not provide grip due to the texture of the back cover.

  • Insert an opening pick into the seam, securing it in place.
  • Use a gentle sawing motion with the Jimmy tool to cut slowly around the top section.

Be cautious not to damage cables for the fingerprint sensor and camera.

Avoid prying too far into the top of the device, as this may harm the fingerprint sensor.

  • Slide the Jimmy tool down the sides of the device, separating the adhesive.

Step 5

  • Use the opening pick to cut through any remaining adhesive.
  • If using replacement strips, remove existing adhesive from the frame with the Jimmy tool.
    • Open the back cover just enough to see the fingerprint sensor flex cable connector.
    • Pull the back cover off carefully, as the cable is located near the front-facing camera and can tear easily.
