Samsung Galaxy S8 Active Motherboard Replacement

Discharging the battery to below 25% will minimize the risk of fire or explosion.

  • Charge the battery below 25% before starting disassembly.
  • Keep replacement adhesive on hand for reassembling the back cover.

Step 1 | SIM Tray/Card

Insert a SIM card ejector tool or unfolded paperclip into the small hole on the left side of the top edge.

  • Press gently to eject the SIM tray.
  • Remove the SIM tray from the device.

Ensure the gold contacts face up and the notch is at the bottom right when reinserting the SIM card.

Reinsert the SIM card by pressing it gently into the SIM tray slot.

Step 2 | NFC Antenna and Charging Coil Assembly

Removing the back cover may compromise waterproof seals.

  • Have replacement adhesive ready before proceeding, or avoid liquid exposure.
  • Remove four black 3mm screws from the outside edges with a TR6 Torx Security Screwdriver.
  • Take off the rubber bumpers from the top and bottom edges of the device.

Avoid overheating the device, as damage to internal components such as the OLED display and battery may occur.

  • Use a heat gun or alternative heating tools (iFixit iOpener, hair dryer, hot plate) to gently warm the back edges for approximately one minute.
  • Be cautious when handling the metal frame, which will become hot during this process.

Insert Jimmy tool under edge of back cover.

A suction handle is ineffective due to texture; use caution when lifting.

  • Insert opening pick into seam after Jimmy tool placement.
  • Cut slowly around top section, avoiding fingerprint sensor and camera cables.

Avoid prying too far to protect fingerprint sensor.

Slide Jimmy tool down sides, separating adhesive.

Step 5

Use the opening pick to cut through any remaining adhesive.

  • If replacement strips are available, use the Jimmny tool to remove remaining adhesive from the device frame.
  • Open the back cover slightly, allowing access to the fingerprint sensor flex cable connector.
  • Pull the back cover off gently near the front-facing camera to avoid damaging the fingerprint sensor cable.

Flip the cover slowly and set it aside.

  • Fingerprint flex cable: disconnect with the flat end of a spudger.
  • Remove the back cover.

When reconnecting, align the back cover to ensure the flex cable fits into its socket.

Use the flat end of a spudger to snap the cable in place by pressing straight down.

Use a Phillips #00 Screwdriver to remove the following screws:

  • Eleven 3.5 mm screws.
  • Two 2 mm screws.

Use the flat end of a spudger to carefully remove the NFC antenna and charging coil assembly.

Step 9 | Loudspeaker Assembly

Use the flat end of a spudger to carefully remove the loudspeaker assembly.

Step 10 | Iris Scanner

Disconnect the iris scanner flex cable from the motherboard using the flat end of a spudger.

  • Be gentle when handling the iris scanner to avoid damage.

  • Use tweezers to lift the iris scanner out of its slot.

Step 11 | Front-Facing Camera

Disconnect the front-facing camera flex cable from the motherboard using the flat end of a spudger.

  • Use tweezers to gently lift the camera from its slot.

Step 12 | Motherboard

Use the flat end of a spudger to disconnect the battery flex cable.

Step 13

Use a Phillips #00 Screwdriver to remove one 3.5 mm screw.

Disconnect the Volume Up, Volume Down, and Bixby button flex cable using the flat end of a spudger.

Use the flat end of a spudger to carefully disconnect the display flex cable.

Use a spudger's flat end to disconnect the charging port flex cable.

Use a flat-ended spudger to disconnect both the black antenna cable and the white antenna cable.

Careful: improper handling can damage the flex cable.

  • Identify the flex cable connecting the motherboard and daughterboard.
  • Use the flat end of a spudger to carefully disconnect the flex cable.

  • Place the spudger's flat end on the motherboard's top edge.
  • Pry up carefully to release and remove the motherboard.
