  • Take off the rubber bumpers from top and bottom edges of the device.

Do not apply excessive heat as it may damage internal components.

  • Use a heat gun or alternative heat source (iFixit iOpener, hair dryer, hot plate) to lightly heat the back edges for approximately one minute.
  • Handle the metal frame with care, as it will become hot during heating.

Step 4

Insert a Jimmy tool under the edge of the back cover.

Due to the texture, a suction handle offers no grip for lifting the back cover.

  • Once in place, insert an opening pick into the seam to prevent closure if the Jimmy tool is removed.

Carefully cut around the top section without damaging fingerprint sensor or camera cables. Avoid prying too far, which risks damaging the fingerprint sensor.

  • Use the Jimmy tool to slide down both sides of the device and separate the adhesive.

Step 5

Use the opening pick to slice through any remaining adhesive.

  • If replacement strips are available, use the Jimmy tool to remove excess adhesive from the device frame.
  • Open the back cover about a quarter turn, exposing the fingerprint sensor flex cable connector.

When removing the back cover, carefully pull it off gently to avoid damaging the fingerprint sensor cable, which is located near the front-facing camera at the top of the phone.
