Samsung Galaxy S8 Active Iris Scanner Replacement

Note: To replace or remove the iris scanner, you must discharge your Samsung Galaxy S8 Active's battery to below 25% to prevent a risk of explosion/fire, even though damage is still possible if the battery is punctured.

  • Remove the back cover using replacement adhesive for reassembly.
  • Before disassembling, ensure the battery level is below 25%.

Removing the back cover will compromise its waterproof seals.

  • Have replacement adhesive on hand or avoid liquid exposure when reassembling.

  • Take off the rubber bumpers from the top and bottom edges of the device.

Excessive heat can damage the OLED display, battery, and internal components.

  • Apply gentle heat to the back edges with a heat gun (or an iFixit iOpener, hair dryer, or hot plate) to soften the adhesive.
  • Heat for approximately one minute, being cautious not to overheat the device.

Handle the metal frame carefully as it may become hot to the touch.

Insert a Jimmy tool under the back cover's edge.

A suction handle provides no grip due to the back cover's texture.

  • Place an opening pick in the seam to secure it against accidental closure.
  • Cut slowly around the top, avoiding sensor cables and being cautious near the fingerprint sensor.

Slide the Jimmy tool down the sides, separating the adhesive.

  • If replacement strips are available, use the Jimmy tool to remove remaining adhesive from the device frame.
  • Open the back cover slightly and locate the fingerprint sensor flex cable connector.
  • The fingerprint sensor cable is connected near the front-facing camera; avoid damaging it by gently removing the back cover.
