Samsung Galaxy S7 Screen Replacement

Replacing the screen without a new frame can result in uneven pressure damage.

  • Before starting, ensure you have the correct replacement part for your Samsung Galaxy S7's OLED display.
  • If your phone's original frame is damaged or bent, replace it to avoid mounting issues with the new screen.

Wear eye protection and apply a screen protector or tape when handling badly shattered screens to prevent injury from glass shards.

Step 1 | Rear Glass

Step 1 image

Compromising the waterproof seals will expose your phone to liquid damage.

  • Prepare replacement adhesive or exercise caution when reassembling without it.
  • Apply a heated iOpener to a long edge for about two minutes, reheating and reapplying as needed.
  • Follow the iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.
  • Avoid overexposure using alternative heat sources like a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate.

Step 2

Be cautious when handling heated glass and curved edges.

  • Apply a suction cup as close to the warm edge as possible, avoiding the curved portion of the glass.
  • If the back cover is cracked, use strong tape or superglue to secure the suction cup before proceeding.

Avoid using metal tools and excessive force to prevent breaking the rear glass.

  • Lift on the suction cup and gently insert an opening pick under the rear glass.
  • Due to the curved shape, push up rather than inserting parallel to the phone's plane.

Reapply heat as needed to soften the adhesive, which cools quickly.

  • Optionally, add a few drops of isopropyl alcohol into the gap once the pick is inserted to further weaken the adhesive.

Step 3

Step 3 image

Reheat and reapply the iOpener to soften the adhesive.

  • Firmly insert the pick into the glass.
  • Wait until the iOpener is reheated and reapplied before proceeding.

Step 4

  • Slide the opening pick down along the side of the phone, gently prying up the adhesive.
  • Be cautious not to let the tip slip out of the seam; if it becomes difficult, reheat and reapply the iOpener.

  • Leave the first pick in place and grab a second one for the next step; this will help prevent re-adhesion of the glue.

Step 5

Continue to apply heat and use a cutting tool to separate the remaining three sides of the phone.

  • For each side, insert an opening pick at an angle to keep the adhesive from sealing over the cut.

Step 6

Remove the glass screen from the phone by lifting it.

  • Lift the glass to dislodge it from its frame.
  • Gently pry the glass free from its mounting points, if necessary.

Remove large chunks of old adhesive before reinstalling the back cover.

  • Wash the midframe surface with isopropyl alcohol, being careful not to get it on the wireless charging coil.
  • Test your repair by turning on your phone before installing new adhesive and resealing.
  • If desired, reinstall the back cover without replacing the adhesive. Apply heat and pressure after installation for a temporary seal.

Step 8 | NFC Antenna and Charging Coil Assembly

Unplug the display and digitizer connector using the flat end of a spudger.

Step 13

Step 13 image

Be cautious when applying heat as it may damage the phone.

  • Prepare an iOpener and apply it to a long edge of the phone for approximately 2 minutes.
  • If necessary, reheat and reapply the iOpener multiple times until the phone reaches a suitable temperature.
  • Follow the manufacturer's guidelines for using the iOpener to avoid overheating the device.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer or heat gun if additional heat is required to weaken the display adhesive.

Step 14

Step 14 image

Apply a suction cup near the heated edge of the phone when the screen is warm.

If the display is badly cracked, the suction cup may not stick; try using strong tape or superglue to secure it before proceeding.

  • Lift on the suction cup and insert an opening pick under the display assembly.

Step 15

Step 15 image

Reheat and reapply the iOpener to soften the display adhesive.

  • The pick should be firmly in place underneath the display.

Step 16

Step 16 image

Slide the opening pick down the phone's side, gently prying apart the adhesive.

  • The display cable is situated near the midpoint; avoid pressing too hard, as this can cause interference.
  • Pry slowly to maintain control over the tip and prevent it from slipping out of the seam.

If sliding becomes difficult, reheat the iOpener and apply heat again.

Leave the pick in place and proceed with a second pick, helping to maintain the separated adhesive.

Step 17

Step 17 image

Be cautious not to damage the phone's features when cutting the remaining sides.

  • Repeat the heating and cutting process for each of the three remaining sides.
  • Leave an opening pick on each side to prevent resealing of adhesive.
  • Avoid cutting too deeply on top or bottom to prevent damaging:
    • Front-facing sensors
    • Speaker assembly
    • Capacitive buttons

Step 18

  • Pry tool the opposite side of the display.
  • The display will hinge open when the cable is in place.

Step 19

Step 19 image

Disconnect the display connector and lift the display away from the mid frame.

  • Pull the display connector through the hole in the mid frame.
  • Completely remove the display.

Step 20

Step 20 image

Read the screen adhesive application guide here.

  • Remove all old adhesive from the frame, taking care to clear small glass fragments.
  • Clean adhesion areas with 90% isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth or coffee filter. Swipe in one direction only.

Failure to remove remnants can cause display mounting issues and damage the new screen.
