Samsung Galaxy S7 Rear Glass Replacement

Replacing the rear glass cover requires a new batch of adhesive strips.

  • Remove the rear glass cover using a plastic spudger and heat gun.
  • Securely attach new adhesive strips to the phone's frame before reattaching the back cover.

Step 1 | Rear Glass

Step 1 image

Opening your phone will compromise its waterproof seals; have replacement adhesive ready before proceeding.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to a long edge of the phone for about two minutes.
  • You may need to reheat and reapply the iOpener several times to achieve the desired temperature.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but be cautious not to overheat the phone – the OLED display and internal battery are susceptible to heat damage.

Use caution when handling heated glass.

  • Apply suction cup near heated edge, avoiding curved part of glass.
  • If back cover is cracked, use strong tape or superglue to secure suction cup.

Insert opening pick under rear glass by lifting suction cup.

Avoid using excessive force or metal tools, which can break the glass.

  • Push up on pick due to curved glass design.
  • If stuck, reapply heat and try again, as adhesive cools quickly.

Adding isopropyl alcohol may aid in loosening adhesive in subsequent steps.

Step 3

Reheat and reapply iOpener to soften the adhesive.

  • The iOpener should still be positioned under the affected area of the glass.
  • Insert a pick into the weakened adhesion, ensuring it is firmly seated in place before proceeding.

Step 4

Slide the opening pick down along the side of the phone, separating the adhesive.

Be careful not to let the tip slip out of the seam; if it becomes difficult, reheat and reapply the iOpener.

Leave the pick in place and grab a second one for the next step, as this can help prevent the glue from re-adhering.

Continue cutting along the other three edges, leaving a pick at each corner to keep the adhesive open.

  • Heating and cutting the next side may require multiple passes with the heat gun.
  • Move the opening picks to each new edge as you progress, ensuring the adhesive remains separated.

Remove the glass from the phone by lifting it off.

  • Hold the phone firmly to prevent damage.
  • Gently lift the glass panel, taking care not to touch any of the internal components.

Reassemble the phone with a custom-cut adhesive strip on the back cover.

  • When cleaning the midframe surface with isopropyl alcohol, avoid contact with the wireless charging coil — damage from alcohol exposure can occur.

  • Ensure your phone is turned on and fully functional after reassembly.

Alternatively, you can reinstall the back cover without new adhesive. Remove large chunks of old adhesive that may interfere with proper alignment. Secure the back cover in place by applying heat and pressure.
