Samsung Galaxy S7 Battery Replacement

A swollen battery is extremely hazardous; consider taking it to a professional if unsure.

  • Discharge the battery below 25% before disassembling.
  • Remove any SIM card, but this step is not required for replacement.

Never heat your phone; use a dropper or syringe with 90+ % isopropyl alcohol to weaken the adhesive if needed.

Step 1 | Rear Glass

Step 1 image

Opening your phone will compromise its waterproof seals — be prepared with replacement adhesive to avoid liquid exposure.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to a long edge of the phone for approximately two minutes.
  • Reheat and reapply as needed, following the iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.
  • Alternative heat sources include hair dryers, heat guns, or hot plates; however, exercise caution to prevent overheat damage to the OLED display and internal battery.

Step 2

Apply a suction cup near the heated edge of the phone's back panel, avoiding the curved section.

  • If the back cover is cracked, use strong tape or superglue the suction cup for better adhesion.
  • Lift on the suction cup and insert an opening pick under the rear glass.

Be cautious not to apply too much force, as the rear glass can break.

Due to curved glass, push up gently rather than inserting parallel to the phone's surface.

  • If you encounter difficulties, reapply heat and try again. Note that adhesive cools quickly, requiring repeated heating.
  • Optionally, add isopropyl alcohol drops into the gap after inserting the pick for further adhesive weakening.

Step 3

Step 3 image

Reinsert the iFixit pick into the glass and reapply the heated iOpener.

Ensure the pick is firmly seated before proceeding.

Step 4

Slide the opening pick down along the side of the phone, gently prying the adhesive away.

Be cautious not to let the tip slip out of the seam; if this becomes a problem, reheat and reapply the iOpener.

  • Leave the pick in place as you proceed with the next step.
  • Grasp a second opening pick for additional support.

Step 5

Insert an opening pick at each edge and leave it in place.

  • Repeat the heating and cutting procedure for the remaining three sides.
  • Continue moving around the phone, leaving a pick in each edge to prevent resealing.

Step 6

Remove the glass screen from the phone by lifting it out.

  • Grasp the edges of the glass carefully.
  • Pull the glass straight up to detach it.

Step 7

Never expose the wireless charging coil to isopropyl alcohol — the coating will break.

  • Turn on your phone and test after repair before installing new adhesive.

Do not apply alcohol to the midframe surface near the wireless charging coil.

Remove large chunks of old adhesive that may interfere with a flush installation.

  • Apply heat and pressure to secure the back cover after installation.
  • The glue should provide sufficient holding power, but the phone will not be waterproof.

Step 8 | Loudspeaker Assembly

Insert the spudger tip into the small notch on the left side of the antenna assembly.

  • Pry the assembly up and out of the frame.
  • Remove the antenna assembly.

Step 12 | Battery Connector

Use the flat end of a spudger to release the battery connector.

Step 13 | Prepare the adhesive

Step 13 image

Apply 1-2 drops of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol under each corner of the battery.

  • Allow it to penetrate for several minutes, weakening the adhesive.
  • Be cautious: Too much alcohol can damage the display.

Never use excessive isopropyl alcohol — risk of display damage.

  • Alternatively, prepare an iOpener and apply it directly to the battery.
  • Allow the iOpener to soften the adhesive for at least one minute.

Step 14 | Pry up the battery

Step 14 image

Do not apply excessive force when prying up the battery — risk of damage.

  • Use an opening pick to gently pry from the bottom with firm pressure.
  • Avoid using metal tools or applying too much force, which could damage components above the daughterboard and antenna cables.
  • Pry carefully against the case directly above these cables.
  • You may need to reheat and reapply the iOpener repeatedly to loosen the adhesive.

Handle with care: soft-shell lithium-ion batteries can be damaged, causing chemical leaks or fires if deformed.

Step 15 | Remove the battery

Do not reuse the removed battery as it poses a potential safety hazard.

  • Slide an opening pick up the side of the battery to break apart any remaining adhesive.
  • Lift the battery out of the case.

Wait at least ten minutes for isopropyl alcohol to completely evaporate before installing a new battery.

  • Replace the removed battery with a new one.
  • Follow this guide for proper installation of a new battery and adhesive.
