How to Identify the Rear Camera Type for a Samsung Galaxy S7

There are multiple versions of the Galaxy S7's rear camera, so identifying the correct one is crucial for a successful repair. Failure to do so may result in a Camera Failed error message.

Do not attempt to use a camera from one manufacturer as a replacement for another manufacturer's camera, as this can result in a non-functional camera.

  • Only replace a Samsung camera with a Samsung camera (e.g. ISOCELL S5K2L1).
  • Similarly, only replace a Sony IMX260 camera with another Sony IMX260 camera.

Using the wrong camera type will cause your handset to display the "Camera Failed" error message.

Verify that the camera model is unidentified, indicated by no manufacturer labels present.

  • Locate the green-colored flex cable nearby the connector.

Step 3 | Sony IMX260

The Sony camera can be identified by the "Sony" stamp on the flex cable.

  • The flex cable is also distinguishable by its blue color, which is located near the connector.

Step 4 | Identification Through a 3rd Party Application

Download AIDA64 from the Google Play Store.

  • Use this application to identify your device without opening it.
