Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge NFC Antenna and Charging Coil Assembly Replacement

The NFC antenna and charging coil replacement process can be challenging due to the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge's curved edge and strong adhesive.

  • Follow this guide for a successful replacement.
  • Be prepared for multiple heat and pull cycles, as patience is required to loosen the adhesive.

Step 1 | Rear Glass

Step 1 image

Opening your phone will compromise its waterproof seals.

  • Prepare replacement adhesive before proceeding or take precautions against liquid exposure during reassembly.
  • iOpener: Apply for about two minutes to a long edge of the phone, reheating and reapplying as needed.
  • Follow iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but exercise caution to prevent heat damage to the OLED display and internal battery.

Step 2

Step 2 image

The back panel must be warm to the touch before proceeding.

  • Apply a suction cup as close to the heated edge as possible, avoiding the curved portion of the glass.
  • If the back cover is cracked or the suction cup won't stick, use strong tape or superglue and allow it to cure.

Be cautious when lifting: due to the curved glass, you'll be pushing up rather than inserting parallel to the phone's plane.

  • Lift on the suction cup and insert an opening pick under the rear glass.
  • If necessary, reapply heat to soften the adhesive and try again. The adhesive cools quickly, so repeated heating may be required.

Step 3

Reheat the iOpener and reapply it to the glass to soften the adhesive.

  • Make sure the pick remains firmly inserted.

Slide the opening pick along the side of the phone, separating the adhesive.

Go slowly to avoid the tip slipping out of the seam; difficulty may require reheating and reapplying the iOpener.

  • Leave the pick in place and grab a second pick for the next step.
  • This will help prevent the glue from re-adhering to the previously separated area.

Continue heating and cutting the remaining three sides.

  • Apply a new opening pick to each side after cutting, leaving it in place for the next step.

Remove the glass by lifting it off the phone.

  • Lift the glass carefully to avoid scratching the screen or phone casing.
  • Once lifted, gently pull the glass away from the phone and set it aside.

Peel away remaining adhesive with tweezers.

  • Clean adhesion areas with isopropyl alcohol (90%) and a lint-free cloth.
  • Peel off new rear glass backing, aligning one edge to the phone chassis.
  • Firmly press the glass onto the phone.

If using old back cover or no adhesive, follow this guide instead.

  • Turn on your phone and test repair before installing new adhesive.
  • If reinstalling without replacing adhesive, remove large chunks of adhesive first.
  • Apply heat and pressure to secure the back cover in place.
